Pink Petals

Another year, another birthday and another gift from Sephora! This year, members can choose a gift from either Marc Jacobs or Fresh. I decided to go with the Marc Jacobs set because I have already tried the Fresh Soy Cleanser. The Marc Jacobs gift comes with a deluxe sample of the Highliner Gel Crayon in Blaquer and Le Marc Lip Creme Lipstick in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.
Based on the weight, the Lipstick is worth $9.50 and the Eyeliner $31.00 for a total of $40.50 - which is confusing because the full sized eyeliner and the mini in this gift are both 0.01oz...
The products themselves are ah-mazing! I love, love, LOVE the dusty rose colour of the lipstick and it applies like a dream - so pigmented and creamy. The eyeliner is a pretty good gel liner as well and it's one of the firmer gel liners which is a big help in application - but it can easily smudge. I don't know if I'd purchase the full sized products of these because of the steep price tag, but I'll enjoy the minis.

What birthday gift did you get/will choose from Sephora?

It's been so long since I've gotten a monthly beauty subscription box - I used to love opening these up every month to see what surprise they had in store for me. That was until I realized a lot of items I received weren't suited for me, despite most having a beauty questionnaire. Regardless, I still love the little bit of excitement that comes into opening the box and it's all thanks to my cousin who bought me a Topbox subscription!
In this month's Topbox, I received:
Revlon Professional UniqOne Lotus Hair Treatment (9 ml $1.03)
I actually already have a sample of this hair treatment that I got at a Yelp event. It claims to have 10 real benefits for your hair - but I just use it as a leave in hair conditioner. It works about the same as all the others that I use so I'm giving this a meh.
ST. TROPEZ Gradual Tan Tinted Body Lotion (50 ml $9.82)
I don't even need tanning lotion - I'm already tan. This product reminds me of why I didn't like some boxes...
Estée Lauder Sumptuous Knockout Defining Lift and Fan Mascara (0.09 oz $11.79)
I *think* this would be my first Estee Lauder mascara so I'm pretty excited about it! My eyes have recently become quite sensitive to eye makeup so maybe this will work for my temperamental eyes.
BareMinerals Marvelous Moxie Lipgloss in Spark Plug (0.07oz  $13.73)
I love BareMinerals but have not tried any of their lip products. I have to say, I'm not super impressed, mostly because I'm not a fan of lip glosses - but the colour is gorgeous!
Total Value: $36.37

Considering I liked one item from the box, I don't think I will be getting another. Plus I'm pretty sure monthly subscription boxes started my hoarding status.
One thing I do like about Topbox is that they give you the option to choose Prive boxes - boxes containing products concentrated around one brand. Personally, I still like the element of surprise - even if I'm not thrilled about the results.

Are you subscribed to any monthly subscription boxes at the moment?

Although LUSH products are natural and free of preservatives, I think their face masks are the freshest product because they are made in store. Brazened Honey ($7.95) is no exception and is claimed to be their deepest cleansing mask. I was lucky enough to witness this mask be made before my eyes at the LUSH Factory Tour. The eggs and honey in this mask soften the skin, lime oil brightens, spices warm the skin and ground almonds exfoliate. All of this is mixed together with kaolin clay which helps deep clean pores.
This is the second mask I've tried from LUSH, with the first being the Cranberry Festive Face Mask. Brazened Honey is thicker than your typical face mask and can get messy to apply. I found that it clumped together on my skin a lot, making it a bit hard to apply an even layer. Bits would also fall off in the process of applying as well as drying. What I did like about this mask was that it had to remain refrigerated, so it was pleasant for my skin at the end of a hot and sweaty day. The ground almonds were also great for exfoliating and you can feel the spices warming up the skin, providing a tingly sensation. After washing the mask off, my skin would feel dry but not dehydrated - just free of the oils residing on my face prior to the application.

To be honest, I'm not a huge fan of fresh masks because of the short shelf life of two weeks - which goes hand in hand with the absence of preservatives. Not going to lie, I totally used this past it's expiry date - I just can't waste product! If you're an avid user of face masks and can definitely finish a tub within two weeks  or get some help using up the product, I'd definitely give this a try.

What was your first LUSH product?

It hasn't been long since Jaclyn Hill and BECCA collaborated to create the Champagne Pop highlighter. Now they're taking it one step further and made some pretty sweet limited edition items:
I managed to snag a face palette and it's absolutely beautiful. The packaging itself is stunning and so aesthetically pleasing with a gold and white case.
The contents of the palette include:
Rose Spritz - shimmery rose pink
Amaretto - matte hazlenut brown
Pamplemousse - bright melon pink
Champagne Pop - rose gold highlight
Prosecco Pop - light gold highlight
I'm honestly not a fan of highlighters - I feel like it just accentuates my oily skin - but this palette is just absolutely beautiful. I really like that there are two matte shades here - Amaretto and Pamplemousse. All 5 shades are very pigmented so a light hand is needed for application, unless of course you're trying to get your glow on. Here are swatches in sunlight and in regular light.
Everything about this palette just has me going YAAASSSSSS! I know this isn't very descriptive, but if you've ever tried any of the BECCA x Jaclyn highlighters, you'll know exactly what I mean. If you missed out on this palette, don't fret! They're releasing the BECCA x Jaclyn Hill Champagne Splits Shimmering Skin Perfector Mineral Blush Duo with combination of 4 of the 5 shades in this palette.

Summer is here! And that means a whole lotta sun and outdoor activities! I'm personally working outside this Summer and thankfully I don't have to worry about getting sunburnt with the Sunthera3 Sheer Lotion with SPF 50. Yupp, that's right, SPF 50! This lotion is water/sweat resistant, hypoallergenic, oil free and instantly dries.
I first tried this on a trip to Canada's Wonderland and applied the Sunthera3 lotion all over my face and body. Typically, sunscreens can be thick and goopy, but this lotion is thin and easy to apply. As it claims, it's not greasy at all and instantly gets absorbed into the skin. It also lasted all day through the blazing heat and water rides and I lasted the day without a single burn, whereas my boyfriend - who refused to use some - was red as a tomato, hehe.

The most surprising thing about this lotion is that it didn't cause any reactions with my skin - more so my face. My skin is quite sensitive and using high SPF moisturizers can easily break my skin out because of the thickness. This lotion was so thin and the sheer layer responded well with my skin. I'll definitely be carrying this around with me all Summer long.

What outdoor activities do you do in the Summer?

The last perfume in the Dave Lackie x Cityline swag bag is Chloe’s Chloe Eau de Parfum (1 fl oz / $80). Chloe comes in a pleated rectangular bottle with a nude colour bow on top that screams sophisticated. This scent has notes of pink peony, freesia, lychee, magnolia flower, lily of the valley, rose, cedar wood, amber and honey.

Chloe is literally the scent of a fresh bouquet of flowers - but like nice smelling flowers. Although I’m not a fan of floral scents, Chloe’s scent is sweet enough for my liking and I find it to be more of a sophisticated fragrance – both in price tag and scent. It reminds me of Marc Jacob’s Daisy and Taylor Swift’s Wonderstruck, with a price point right in between the two. (This is probably because these are two of the few floral fragrances I like).

On a side note: for those who are familiar with Chloe, this is the My Little version which is 20 ml and is usually released around Mother's Day. It's a great size for travelling or trying the fragrance before buying the full sized bottle. The My Little series also comes in Chloe Eau De Toilette and Roses de Chloe.

Which floral scent do you like the most? I used to really like roses but now I think I'm leaning towards daisies.

Maybelline had a booth at TFW where they were giving out their new (but not so new anymore) Vivid Matte Liquid Lipsticks. I got the colour Berry Boost which is a pretty accurate name for the muted bright raspberry colour.
The lipstick applies nicely and is quite pigmented but it's texture leaves it feeling more like a lipgloss. It doesn't apply opaque like the NYX liquid lipsticks, so the application will need some evening out. The lipstick doesn't dry to a matte finish, but more of a demi-matte and there will definitely be some transfer.
The colour is beautiful and the applicator for some reason works really well for me - it's the only liquid lipstick that I can apply without messing up! I think this lasted about 4 hours on me without eating or drinking anything, leaving a beautiful stain when wearing off.

Although I definitely do appreciate the Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid Lipstick, I definitely would categorize it as a lip gloss/stain rather than a liquid lipstick.

What brand/colour do you use for your everyday lip?

At the L'Oreal Warehouse Sale earlier this year, I managed to snag the infamous Bikini So Teeny by Essie. Truthfully, I was kind of disappointed in the polish - it's a beautiful colour but the application is quite sheer and streaky. Here are 4 coats applied to my nails and it took 2 attempts at it because I got impatient and smudged it the first time #nailpolishproblems.
How many nail polish coats is your limit?

I finished quite a bit of samples this month because I went away for 5 weeks and I just brought a crap ton of them with me, although I brought a whole lot more than I actually needed - ALL THE SAMPLES!

Rating Guide:
☆ - All aboard the nope train!
☆☆ - Meh... It's okay
☆☆☆ - YAAASSSSSS!!
Sample Size
Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cream & Cleanser ☆☆
Julep One-Step Polish Remover Pad x 3 ☆
Although it smelled strongly of acetone, I found it didn't remove all my polish and I had to paint over some old polish.
John Frieda Frizz Ease Thermal Protection Serum ☆
The Body Shop Tea Tree Squeaky Clean Scrub ☆☆☆
I've fallen in love with The Body Shop's Tea Tree line, but I have too many skincare products to justify buying some of this!
Kibio Fit by Nature Lifting Cream Gel ☆
This gel has a nice and refreshing herbal/leafy scent but
I didn't notice much of a difference in my skin except that it was moisturized.
Clarins Multi-Active Day & Night Cream ☆☆
NuMe Hydrating Shampoo & Conditioner ☆
Petals and Lace Heart Soap ☆☆
Caudalie Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet ☆☆
Nourish Shampoo & Conditioner ☆☆

Full Size
Biore Nose Strip ☆☆
Yes To Tomatoes Deep Pore Exfoliating Cleanser ☆☆
LUSH Brazened Honey Fresh Face Mask ☆☆

Tosses
Wet n Wild Proline Felt Tip Liner ☆☆
This was a great liquid eyeliner and it was really easy to use but mine broke within the first week - the body of the marker would come apart when I went to open it, exposing the inky stick inside. Also sad that this dried up on me - but that may be due to the loose casing.

Half the year is gone! How's your pan project/empties goal coming along?
