Pink Petals

A Canadian Beauty and Lifestyle Blog

I have been getting more into jewelry lately, specifically dainty timeless pieces. So when I saw an Instagram ad from Finley, I couldn't resist trying out some of their products. Finley is a new startup company focusing on value, quality, and sustainable jewelry pieces. At the time, Finley was offering a promotion: $40 for a ring, choker and set of earrings from its Essentials Collection in either silver or 14-karat gold vermeil. By doing this, Finley adopted a social media marketing approach, instead of investing in actual marketing.

I was pretty skeptical about ordering because it was a fairly new company with little information about the quality to go on, besides some photos from Instagram, especially since my skin is sensitive to certain metals. After a couple days of looking at my shopping cart, I just bit the bullet and decided to place an order for the trio in gold vermeil.
Finley's pieces are dainty and timeless, just exactly what I was looking for. Both the choker and ring are beaded, while the earrings are bar studs. For reference on how dainty their jewelry is, the ring is about half the size of Pandora's Eternal Clouds ring. I'm no expert on quality, but I have been wearing the earrings non-stop for a month now without any issues - the hardware keeps the earrings in place and the metals used have not created a reaction with my skin. The ring and choker I haven't worn as much because the ring is thinner than I'm used to, while the choker is tighter than I'm used to as well. On occasion, I will wear all three pieces together though because they go so well as a set.
One downside to ordering is that shipping is an additional cost and the prices are in USD, even though they are based in Toronto. When placing my order, the website didn't specify the currency so it was a bit of a shock to me, and although I like the pieces, the price conversion definitely would have played a bigger deciding factor had I known beforehand. So all in all, I paid $66.82 USD which was about $90 CAD when converted. With this in mind, I'm not sure if I'd reorder considering the price range, but then again, a similar ring at Mejuri is $88, so I still got a pretty good deal!

What's your favourite store to buy jewelry? Mine has to be Pandora for the simple and affordable rings!

At the OOAK Show, SeaLuxe's Beach Glass Soap ($20) caught my eye because of its simplicity and brilliance. SeaLuxe's Beach Glass Soap was inspired by and made to combat soap bar waste- you know, those little slivers that you're left with at the end of a soap bar that nobody uses.
However, I couldn't justify buying more soap due to my enormous stash at home. BUT, with my trip to California coming up, I thought it would be great to travel with and decided to make some of my own! (Cause ain't nobody got time to wait for bar soap to dry when you're on the go!)
These soaps are small enough for a single use - just grab a piece and lather up until it's gone! They're also extremely easy to make and can look very elegant when placed in a glass jar too.
For my travel soap, I used LUSH's Layer Cake soap due to the glycerin base and ombre colour effect.
(LUSH no longer makes this soap, but you can definitely to this with almost any soap, as long as it doesn't have any foreign objects in it that may compromise the size i.e. berries, loofah, etc.)
As for the glass corked bottles, I got a set of two at Dollarama for $1.25.
To make these shards of soap, I simply used a sharp knife to my soap into small pieces.

I think this is a great DIY for travelling, especially if you plan on bringing a carry-on so you can save on space and swap out your liquid shower gel for bar soap. If you don't quite feel up to doing this DIY, you can always head on over to SeaLuxe's website and place an order there! (They also make awesome smelling soap bars and bath teas!)

Now that I've showed you a travel "hack", let me know one of yours in the comment section below!

On Thursday, I got a chance to go to the One of a Kind Show & Sale for the first time! I was accompanied by the lovely Melanie (I'm Not a Beauty Guru) and got to see and buy some pretty neat things. This show is here in Toronto until April 1st and is definitely a must see if you like homemade items.
My first purchase was the Strawberry Shortcake Brittle from Sweetsmith Candy Co. ($5) - a sponge toffee coated in white chocolate and freeze dried strawberries.. I tried almost every flavour of brittle and toffee this booth had, but found the Strawberry Shortcake to be my favourite.
My second purchase was the Raspberry Mint, Ginger Vanilla, and Lavender Lemon syrups from Split Tree Cocktail Co. The moment I saw this booth, I kind of fan-girled a little bit because I absolutely am addicted to CBC's Dragon's Den and remember seeing this product being in the den. Although I already had a slight bias, I found these syrups really good and purchased my favourites. I do regret not getting the classic sour mix because it seems a lot more practical than the ones I chose, especially when I got home and looked up possible flavour/spirit combinations.
My next purchase was from Sparkle Collective because I'm a crazy cat lady and I can never have too many cat-related items. I got a Donut Cat and a Black Cat vinyl sticker (2/$5) to stick onto my laptop, and a Donut Cat Pin ($5) using the booth's capsule vending machine.
My last purchase was a Rooster Print ($10) from Art of Marina. I got this for my boyfriend who was born in the year of the rooster.
There were definitely some booths that caught my eye but didn't quite meet my needs and/or budget, but I'll keep them in my radar until the time comes.
Craft Lipstick had a lipstick making kit, perfect for those who are interested in making and customizing their own lipsticks. The kits make 5 lipsticks and come with 6 generic pigments.
Wrinkle and Crease had lovely minimalistic prints. I really enjoy simple motivational prints and will definitely have a couple in my future home.
Coal and Canary had amazing smelling hand poured soy candles. Although there were about 10 candle scents, they covered such a variety of smells that anyone could find one they liked. My favourite was the Vodka Crans & Elastic Waistbands.
Abeego sold reusable beeswax wraps which are a great alternative to wasteful food wraps, such as saran wrap and sandwich bags, and the wraps last about one year. I've always seen these wraps online, but it as pretty neat to see it in person and test it out on some of their items on display.
SeaLuxe had some really nice smelling soaps, but the most intriguing ones were their beach glass soaps: individual single-serving hand soaps which is a great idea and perfect for travelling.

I really enjoyed attending OOAKS this year, and will definitely be back the next time they're around. I've been to a couple markets and shows, but rarely purchase anything due to lack of interest or steep price points, but OOAKS has so much going on in terms of variety and interests, its basically impossible to not buy anything.

If you went this weekend or to any previous OOAKS, let me know what your favourite product or booth was!
