Pink Petals

This month I managed to finish quite a bit of product and am so proud of my slowly diminishing stash of beauty products. Hooray to a great way to end 2015!
This month's empties post has full size and sample size empties as well as tosses - onto the list!
Full Sized Items:
Garnier Fructis Style Curl Calm Down Anti Frizz Cream
I don't have curly hair, but my hair definitely does get frizzy. I love using this just as a leave in conditioner though and it leaves my hair smelling amazing and feeling smooth.
yes to tomatoes repairing acne lotion
I really liked this as a night moisturizer because it wasn't hydrating enough for me during the day. The smell could be weird at first but it was gentle on the skin despite it containing salicylic acid. I didn't use this everyday but at times when I noticed my skin was acting up. I'll probably pick up another bottle once I clear my moisturizer stash up a bit.
THEFACESHOP Hyaluronic Acid Baby Face Hydrogel Mask
I really like this mask because of it's jelly texture - it helps adhere the serum to the face and doesn't hold too much serum that it drips down your neck, which is something I often find with face sheet masks. The serum itself is hydrating and refreshing with a light clean scent.
My Beauty Diary Apple Polyphenol Mask
This mask smells like apples and is very hydrating. The mask pack has a tonne of serum and the mask itself is paper so it's quite a generous and messy application. Literally, there is enough serum for your body when you squeeze it out of the packet.

Samples:
Garnier Nutritioniste Skin Renew Daily Regenerating Serum
Tresemme Keratin Smooth Shampoo & Conditioner
Pantene Repair & Protect Miracle Repairing Shampoo & Conditioner
Garnier Fructis Full & Plush Shampoo, Conditioner & Voluptuous Blow Out
L'oreal After Colour Conditioner
Juicy Couture Viva La Juicy Gold Couture - Definitely want a full sized bottle of this, it smells AMAZING.
Hey Honey Good Morning Honey Silk Facial Serum
J.R Watkins Body Butter Lavender
Clinique Liquid Facial Soap, Clarifying Lotion & Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel
philosophy miracle worker overnight
Chanel Chance
Garnier Skin Naturals Miracle Skin Perfector
Tosses:
L'oreal TheOneSweep Sculpting Blush Duo
This does NOT work at all. I literally have dug my finger and brushes into this product and nothing comes out - the powder is just too hard and is not pigmented enough. After a couple months of trying to make it work, I'm saying goodbye!
Almay Smart Shade Smart Balance
I used to really like this tinted moisturizer, but lately it's become really streaky and pronounces my dry spots. The one bonus was the SPF 15, but that doesn't balance out the cons.

What was your latest empty or toss?

I saw this Broken Glass Manicure tutorial by CutePolish on Youtube and decided to try it myself.
I think these would be the perfect nails to ring in the New Year and they just look so cool!
To achieve this look, you'll need:
Clear Polish
Pieces of cut up translucent/opal cellophane
Thin stick - I used a small dotting tool

I used black and white nail polish as the base for this look.
Once the polish has dried, apply a generous coat of clear polish and stick the pieces of translucent/opal cellophane onto your nails with the stick. It helps to have a damp towel with you to help pick up the cellophane pieces. You want to make sure that the corners of the cellophane pieces are adhered to the nail or else they will peel off quite easily.
When you are finished with your mani, ideally you should finish this off with a gel top coat, but a clear polish will work as well.

I really love the look of this polish and have had many compliments. The only downfall is the cellophane pieces fall off so easily, hence why the gel top coat is ideal. I work in retail and have to do a lot with my nails at work so after a 7 hour shift, about a quarter of the cellophane pieces had fallen off.

What design did you do for your nails this holiday season?

LUSH has a huge selection of cosmetics, making it the perfect place to shop for gifts - especially last minute ones. For Christmas, LUSH has quite a bit of limited edition products starting from $4.95 and pre-wrapped gifts from $14.95 to $329.95! Among the many festive products, here are the ones that really caught my eye.

Joy To The World Wrapped Gift - $19.95
Joy To The World contains a tub of Love and Light Hand Cream (45g), which has a light orange scent and a chunk of Snowcake Soap (100g), which smells exactly like almond nougat.

Salt and Peppermint Bark Body Scrub- $9.95
With a light white chocolate peppermint scent, this bar works wonders as it scrubs away dry and rough body parts.

Yog Nog Soap - $6.95

This soap smells like a delicious eggnog with a strong vanilla base that'll leave you skin feeling milky soft after use.

Peeping Santa Bubble Bar - $6.95
This bubble bar looks so adorable and festive but is slightly deceiving. Usually holiday scents don't consist of strawberry, but this one does, so it's perfect for strawberry scent lovers!

Snowman Fun - $6.95
Fun is a multipurpose Play-Doh-like soap that would be a great bath activities for kids. I prefer the Snowman one because it has fruity based scents whereas the Santa Fun has floral based scents.

Santa Baby Lip Tint - $8.95
A beautiful red lip tint that not only adds a pop of colour but moisturizes your lips as well. Use with a lip scrub to get the best results. Christmas Kisses is a pre-wrapped gift for $19.95 that contains Santa Baby as well as Santa's Lip Scrub which is a cola flavoured scrub. There's also the Mint Juleps lip scrub if you want to stick to a minty theme.

Those are my LUSH picks this Christmas. What's yours?

Essence hosts a lot of social media giveaways and I recently won one via their Instagram!
Due to a very long delivery time (like 3 weeks), Essence sent me two prizes which include:
Metal Glam Eyeshadow - Chocolate Jewelery
All About Eyeshadow - Chocolates
Silky Touch Blush - Adorable
XXXL Shine Lipgloss - Just Georgeous
XXXL Nude Lipgloss - Just Nude
Long Lasting Eye Pencil - Hot Chocolate
Long Lasting Lipstick - It's Nude Time
Long Lasting Lipstick - All You Need is Red
I Love Trends Polish - Nude Sweet Nude

Onto the swatches!

Starting with the top right,  is Metal Glam in Chocolate Jewelery. It's a beautiful chocolate brown with chunks of glitter on the top layer and a bit of shimmer in the powder itself. I would prefer it without the layer of chunky glitter on top though.

Below that are the swatches from the All About Chocolates palette - I swatched them in columns from top to bottom. The eyeshadows are pretty pigmented and have a silky finish with a slight shimmer which you can see better in the second photo in direct sunlight.

Starting from the top right is the Silky Touch Blush in Adorable which is a light rose pink. I LOVE their blushes because they are quite pigmented. I initially thought this blush would be too light for my skin tone but it provides a beautiful light flush to the cheeks.

Next up is the XXXL Nude Lipgloss and It's Nude Time Lipstick.  I'm just going to mention that I really don't like nude lips. It looks great on other people, but I just look washed out and sick. The lipgloss and lipstick both have a pink tone and apply sheer. Still too light for my skin though! :(

The XXL Shine Lipgloss and All You Need is Red Lipstick on the other hand are amazing.

Lastly is the Long Lasting Eye Pencil in Hot Chocolate is a twist up eyeliner that is super creamy, pigmented and easy to use. I pretty much love any twist up eyeliner but this one is definitely a great one given it's quality and price.

Have you won any contests lately?

Eep! I finished TWO full sized products this month! AREN'T YOU PROUD OF ME?!
(Sorry for the photo quality, I'm still trying to figure out why it's so different!)

Full Sized:
Softsoap Body Butter Coconut Scrub
This is one of my favourite body washes! It doesn't leave you that dry feeling you have when using soap, and it has exfoliating apricot seed powder.
Covergirl Ink It! Perfect Point Plus Pencil Eyeliner
Very easy to use BUT it smudges just as easily. Cons: when there was about 1/4 of product left, the eyeliner kept snapping off and you can't twist it back in once you twist it out.
LUSH Lord of Misrule Bath Bomb & Sparkly Pumpkin Bubble Bar
I freaking love LUSH bath bombs! Out of the two, I preferred the bubble bar because, well, it made bubbles! LUSH products always intimidated me because of the strong scents, but once these babies are diluted, it smells heavenly!

Samples:
THEFACESHOP Rice Water Bright Cleansing Foam
Burt's Bees Sensitive Daily Moisturizing Cream
Mario Badescu Enzyme Cleansing Gel & Collagen Moisturizer SPF 15
Prada Candy Florale
Dove Pure Care Dry Oil Shampoo, Conditioner & African Macadamia Oil
Clinique  Liquid Facial Soap, Clarifying Lotion & Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion +

What was your biggest empty this month?

Here's a small recap of LUSH's amazing Christmas event that I was able to visit last month. This event was so fun, filled with activities and treats.
There was a Soap Bar with so many pretty and fragrant soaps. Vanessa from Citron and Guavaberry pointed out that they looked a lot like cheese wheels, which turns out to be the inspiration of Yog Nog, Snowcake and Old Father Time.  Others soaps included Reindeer Rock and Baked Alaska.

Next up are the fresh face masks! LUSH usually displays a bar of masks they offer, but for this event they set up a Cranberry Festive Face Mask stand. Here, all the ingredients in the Cranberry Festive Face Mask were laid on a table while one of the employees mixed up a batch. The most stand out ingredients were the tofu, fresh fennel, fennel seeds and red clay powder.
At the Fun Station, there was an array of Fun products - a multi-purpose and moldable soap. It's literally like Play-Doh - but soap! Attendees played around and made their own little figures. No, I did not make the santa and snowman, I'm not that artistic haha.
Onto the final and favourite part of the night - the DIY Bath Bomb Station! We got to press our own Stardust bath bombs with the help of Sammy, and bring them home to enjoy! I snapped a pic of Vanessa hard at work here hehe.
Anddddd the goodies I got to take home! LUSH was very generous with their products and I can't wait to review all of them!
(Photo cred: Vanessa)

The best part was meeting fellow bloggers!
Vanessa from Citron and Guavaberry
Steph from Fun Sized Beauty
Michelle from A Lovely Allure
Zubi from Living The Grey
Jen from Procrastinating Pretty

A HUGE thank you to LUSH for such a fun filled night.

Last month, Chick Advisor hosted a Shop Crawl at Dufferin Mall in Toronto. Tickets were $20 and included a free tea from David's Tea, a $10 gift card to Winners/Marshalls and a stamp card, sort of like a passport, with discounts at participating stores. Honestly, I didn't think I would buy anything, but I found so many good deals, especially at the Gap Factory Store ($30 jeans?! Say whattt!!!).
The stamp card encouraged attendees to visit the stores and collect all the stamps in exchange for a swag bag full of goodies which included:
Aveeno Skin Relief Hand Cream
Revlon Ultra HD Lipstick in Gladiolus
Softlips CUBE Lip Moisturizer in Fresh Mint
Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel Cream
Younique Moodstruck 3D Fiber Lashes
Nivea In-Shower Nourishing Body Milk
Reversa antioxidant booster serum
Nivea Express Eye Makeup Remover
COLAB Extreme Volume Dry Shampoo
Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Set in Red Eye

Can't wait to try out these products! A huge thanks to ChickAdvisor for such a fun shopping event!

I have been dying to get my hands on one of Urban Decay's Naked Flush palettes, and when Native went on sale I jumped at the opportunity. Urban Decay's Naked Flush palettes contain a bronzer, highlighter and a blush to create the perfect travel palette.
The colours in this palette compliment each other fairly well. The powders are pressed together, so there isn't a separation barrier between the three powders.
The bronzer is a beautiful medium brown with a slight shimmer, ideal for medium skin tones.
The highlighter is a light and shimmery pink toned highlighter.
The blush is a fairly bright blue toned Barbie pink, but it isn't too pigmented which is great if you're scared of over blushing.

I really love this palette, especially in the colder weather since my combination skin can afford to have some shimmer added.

What's your favourite Urban Decay Palette?

One of Bzzagent's most recent campaign was the CoverGirl LashBlast Fusion mascara, and just in time as I was deciding which mascara to use for the Fall! Covergirl's LashBlast Clump Crusher is definitely one of the most raved drugstore mascaras, but I decided to pick Fusion because it's supposed to provide volume and length - exactly what I need for my short straight lashes.
I'll be honest - I have yet to find much of a difference that mascara makes on my eyelashes. They're just that short and straight, and oddly if I curl them, they sometimes hit the lenses of my glasses. So for me, mascaras are just there to make my lashes more visible.
My favourite thing about this mascara is the wand. I freaking love plastic wands - I find they don't clump up as much as brush wands, and comb through my lashes beautifully. The formula itself is pretty long lasting and does not budge - it's practically waterproof. If you're a fan of CoverGirl mascaras, you should definitely check this one out!

What's your favourite drugstore mascara?

October has gone - which means an empties post!
I'll admit, I got REALLY lazy with my, erm, maintenance this month. I didn't finish any full sized items, but I got through a couple samples. PROGRESS!
Samples:
Olay Ultra Moisture Body Wash
Clinique Step 3 Clarifying Lotion
Renewing Argan Oil of Morocco Shampoo & Conditioner
Jergens Shea Butter
Raspberry Roots Sleeping Mask
My Beauty Diary Apple Polyphenol Mask
Sampar Ultra Hydrating Fluid
Salvador Dali ItIsDream Perfume
Skinfood Tomato Whitening Toner
Olay Regenerist Micro Sculpting Cream
Biotherm Aquasource Gel

None of these samples really wowed me, so I won't be purchasing the full sized items anytime soon.

Avalai is a Canadian monthly subscription box made to help women with TOM (time of month). These boxes are $19.99 a month (with $3 shipping across Canada) and are packed with essentials as well as chocolate, tea, bath and body products and other treats. The best part is that these boxes are customizable to your preferences and any food allergies you may have.

Onto the box!
I'm a pads kind of girl, so that's what I picked for my preference.
The box contained a bag full of pads (I think these are Kotex?) - 24 in total with 12 regular with wings, 8 regular without wings and 4 overnight with wings. I think there's more than enough pads included to last a month.

As for the goodies, I received:
6 tea bags by Higgins & Burke, 2 each of Peppermint, Green Tea, and Chamomile/Peppermint/Lemongrass
1 Cadbury Premium Dark Chocolate Bar
1 bag of Twice Baked Pretzel Sticks in Garlic Herb by Pretzel Perfection
1 box of Jelly Belly's Cocktail Classics
1 Jasmine Rice Soap Bar by O'Canada Soapworks
1 Avalai Essentials Travel Bag

I'm really impressed with the contents of the bag, I think it addresses some issues that women have during their TOM. What I like the most is the travel bag included - it looks like a wallet and has individual slots for 3 tampons and a pad pocket that can hold up to 3 pads,  which is folded and secured with a velcro flap.

I love the idea of this subscription box, I mean, it's something you need once a month and this just makes it super convenient. One less thing to worry about for the month! Plus, if you're anything like me, you totally forget about it until it comes at which point you pray and hope you still have some pads or tampons left.
Real story: This recently happened the week of TIFF and had to buy a pack of pads at Shoppers. The worst part was, I was totally expecting it but I just ran out of pads at home and was going to buy some after TIFF, but nature couldn't wait. Sorry, TMI, I know, I know.

If you are interested in trying out Avalai, use code JUSTFORYOU to receive 20% off your first box! (From now until November 8th)

Are you the type to forget about TOM until it comes around? *Hoping it's just not me!*

I finally got a chance this month to test out Color Oops and Splat in Lusty Lavender! I'm familiar with Splat because I often pass by their product line in Shoppers Drug Mart, but this was my first time hearing of Color Oops.
Just a note: although this isn't recommended, I did this whole dye job on the same day, I just changed my shirt throughout the process.

Color Oops is a hair colour remover that honestly works wonders. I always thought that hair colour removers basically bleached the colour out of your hair, but this is the first hair colour remover that doesn't have bleach.
This is my hair before and after using Color Oops. My hair was previously bleached and a brown-ish purple colour, faded from Vidal Sassoon's London Lilac hair dye. As you can see, Color Oops did a great job in removing the colour - which was a permanent dye! My only complaint about Color Oops is the smell. It smells really bad and the formula is quite watery, so it dripped onto my shirt and my shirt still carries a bit of the smell.

Next step was to try out Splat, which comes with bleach, peroxide and the temporary hair colour. I'm no stranger to bleaching my hair, but this bleach was a bit different. It was a lot more liquid than regular bleach, which I thought was going to be an issue because I wanted to blend my bleached tips with a bit of highlighting. It turns out that it's a whole lot easier to do this, especially with the squeeze bottle provided.
After I finished bleaching my hair, I put the purple colour on my hair. A couple comments on my Instagram warned me about leaving the colour in too little and too long. Too little would result in a pink colour while too long would be closer to a black. I tried my best to time it correctly, but my hair ended up an orange-y fuchsia pink - which didn't look bad, but was not what I was aiming for.
Just a warning though, this stuff takes FOREVER to wash out. I think I was rinsing my hair in the shower for a good half hour. Oh and it also bleeds from washing, so no whites right after the shower.

When curled, my hair looked a lot better as it faded from black, brown, orange to pink - earning me the nickname "My Little Pony" for a short while.
True to it's name, the colour was only temporary. After a week, you can see the difference in colour pigmentation as it went from a fuchsia pink to a cotton candy pink. The week after, the colour was almost completely out, with just a hint of pink to my orange hair. I wish the colour stayed longer, but at the same time, I hate the slight chance of my hair bleeding into my clothes or my towel.

I think Color Oops and Splat are both great products - Color Oops for its amazing ability to remove hair colour without damaging your hair, and Splat for their super easy to use bleach. The best part is that they're super easy to find and are available at select Jean Coutu, London Drugs, Shoppers Drug Mart, Pharmasave, Walmart, IDA, Guardian, Familiprix, Lawtons Drugs, Save On, Value Drug Mart, Peoples Drug Mart and of course online at Farley Co.

Have you dyed your hair? What was the funkiest colour you had?

Halloween is just around the corner, and nothing completes an amazing costume like a pair of amazing eyes. Spooky Eyes has got you covered with their HUGE selection of Colored Contact Lenses, and all for under $30 a pair!
I was lucky enough to receive the Glimmer Gold contact lenses. I thought these would be great for my Mystique costume this year, but I was a bit worried about how and if the colour would show on dark brown eyes. The coloured contacts are very pigmented and look great! I took a photo with only one contact lens on so you can see the difference in colour.
My eyes are pretty sensitive to contact lenses, which is the main reason why I don't usually wear contacts, but these are thin enough to wear comfortably.
If you're looking for some cheap coloured contacts for costumes, I definitely recommend checking them out!

What are you dressing up as for Halloween this year?

This week, I chose Dare To Wear's Concrete jungle, a blue toned grey. I've noticed that not many polishes come in grey, so I went on a hunt at IMATS last year and this was the closest to a true grey that I could find.
In honor of Pink October, I decided to paint a pink ribbon on both my ring fingers.

What do you think about grey polish?

I have been dying to get my hands on Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipsticks for a while now, but unfortunately they are not sold in Canada. I finally picked some up in the States at Macy's for $20 each.
At first I was a little gobsmacked at the price - $20 for this tube of lip gloss?! But then I had to remind myself, they're lipsticks, and matte ones at that. It took me forever to pick out two shades, but I settled with Bloodline and Baby Pink.
Bloodline is a beautiful scarlet red and Baby Pink is a light Barbie pink.

They apply so pigmented, so smooth and they dry pretty quickly, leaving a gorgeous matte finish. The thing I love the most about these is that they don't accentuate dry lips too much and they don't budge - I ate ice cream with them on and it still looked amazing after.

I'm officially in LOVE with ABH's liquid lipsticks and would definitely recommend these.

Have you tried any liquid lipsticks? Suggestions? :)

Oil pulling has been around for a very long time, but has now gained popularity. Oil pulling is basically when you swish coconut oil in your mouth, which traps things such as bacteria or tiny food particles stuck between your teeth and gums, and you just spit it out. It helps whiten and clean your teeth. Not only is it all natural, but it doesn't damage your teeth like mouthwash does, so it's a great alternative.

BUT, Coconut oil comes in a jar and melts at low temperatures, making it a bit messy to scoop some out to oil pull. Also, solid coconut oil is NOT fun to chew and melt, I've tried it and it's like chewing butter - blech!
PerlaCoco has reinvented oil pulling by making it super easy and convenient to do. PerlaCoco makes mint flavoured oil pulling packets to use daily. These tiny packets contain the perfect amount of coconut oil with a subtle mint flavour. I love these packets because they are super convenient - there's literally no excuse to not clean your teeth. Plus, if the oil does solidify, you can warm them up in your hands.

The recommended use for these oil pulling packets are once daily, for best results in the morning before brushing your teeth. Personally, I like to sleep in so I use these at night because you have to swish them in your mouth for 5 to 15 minutes, which gives me time to get my face ready and relax a little before bed.
Here is my before and after. Although the lighting wasn't the same, you can tell there is a difference in the colour of my teeth - and this was only after a week and a half of oil pulling! After trying PerlaCoco out, I really would recommend it for those who are looking for a more natural way to whiten their teeth - or if they're sensitive to mouthwash like I am (it burns!).

PerlaCoco offers three plans for purchase - 2 weeks ($24.75 USD), 4 weeks ($39.50 USD) and 6 weeks ($52 USD), and ships across North America.

How do you keep your teeth white?

This October, LUSH is releasing Limited Edition Halloween Collection nationwide and online!
I was drawn to the Pumpkin Heebie Jeebie and the Nightwing Shower Jelly.

The Pumpkin Heebie Jeebie is so cute - and I think it's a great gift for a Halloween lover or a party prize. It contains the Sparkly Pumpkin Bubble Bar and the Lord of Misrule Bath Bomb. The Sparkly Pumpkin Bubble Bar has such a strong but pleasant grapefruit scent whereas the Lord of Misrule Bath Bomb has more of a musky and woody scent.
The Nightwing Jelly smelled so familar to me and after a minute I realized it smells exactly like gummy coke candies! Yumm. Plus, it's shaped like a bat! How cute is that?

Check all the spooktacular treats available this month!
Lord of Misrule
Lord of Misrule Shower Cream ($9.95 | $21.95 | $32.95)
An herbal blend of patchouli, peppercorn, black pepper and vanilla as well as wheatgerm oil and vitamin E to nourish your skin.
Nightwing Shower Jelly ($6.95)
Smell fruity with this aloe vera and lime juice jelly that delivers extra nourishment with Vitamin E-rich carob syrup.
Sparkly Pumpkin Bubble Bar ($7.95)
Sparkle and shine with this bar containing juniperberry, grapefruit and lime oils.
Lord of Misrule Bath Bomb ($6.95)
Like the shower cream, it's an herbal blend of patchouli, peppercorn, black pepper and vanilla mixed with popping candy to add some extra spark into your soak.
Pumpkin Heebie-Jeebie ($19.95)
A spooky gift ball containing a Sparkly Pumpkin Bubble Bar and a Lord of Misrule Bath Bomb.
Bat Heebie-Jeebie ($17.95)
A batty gift ball containing the Nightwing Shower Jelly and Lord of Misrule Shower Cream.

They all sound amazing, but I think the Heebie-Jeebies are the cutest!
ALSO, for Torontonians - LUSH at the Eaton Centre is reopening this month too! LUSH for everyone!

Which product are you most excited for at LUSH?
