Pink Petals

To celebrate the opening of their Eaton Centre store, NYX held a Prom Party where attendees could experience or relive prom! NYX also asked attendees to help support The New Circles Prom Project by bringing a pre-loved/new suit or dress which I think is a great idea since I barely wear the same dress twice (partially cause I can't fit my old dresses, but that's not the point hehe). The event was held in a former church with music, activities, dancing and drinks.
There were 3 main stations at the event:
A plinko machine where you could win some NYX prizes such as temporary tattoos, a small container of bubbles for blowing (what are these things called??) and NYX sunglasses.
A photo booth with prom themed props as well as giant NYX props.
A mirror photo booth surrounded by makeup train cases showcasing some NYX products that attendees could test and swatch.
Of course, there was also an open bar and some free food. The open bar mainly served a signature cocktail, but requests for other drinks were welcome. Servers made rounds with food platters which were all bite sized versions of macaroni and cheese puffs, braised beef on a potato chip, fish and chips, along with sweets like lip shaped sugar cookies and candied popcorn.
Coming straight from work, I was ravenous when I came here so I didn't stay for long (I was pretty hangry). I met some awesome bloggers at the event, including new ones (Lindsey from Lindsey Ginge, Christine from ,  Christine from, and from A Certain Rom Blog. For some it was their first time at prom so I was happy to be part of their experience.
Of course, NYX didn't send us home empty handed and we received some awesome swag! Attendees received a cute NYX backpack that contained a NYX Class of 2016 colouring book containing images of YouTubers that are affiliated with NYX, colouring pencils and a NYX Beauty School Dropout palette.

What's the latest product you've tried from NYX?

Garnier's SkinActive line has a couple new additions: Micellar Water, Clearly Brighter Moisturizer and Miracle Anti-Fatigue Moisturizer. I received the Micellar Water and Clearly Brighter Moisturizer, as well as a cute mug and David's Tea's Juicy Orange courtesy of ChickAdvisor.
Clearly Brighter Moisturizer $20.99
This moisturizer claims to brighten and smooth your skin and has a pump to dispense the product. i already love it because of the pump and find that 1.5 pumps is enough to cover my face. I didn't notice anything in terms of brightening and smoothing, but it does it's job as a moisturizer and does not irritate my skin in the least. It has SPF 15 which is great and reminds me of The Body Shop's Vitamin C daily moisturizer, but this one is more lightweight. I think it's a bit pricey for a drugstore moisturizer, but it's a thumbs up in my books!

Micellar Water $9.99
The first redeeming point about this Micellar Water is the price - for $9.99, you really can't go wrong. I've tried both the Bioderma and Vichy Micellar Waters, and based on use and ingredients, there doesn't seem to be much of a difference between the Micellar Waters, besides 1 or 2 ingredients. I do notice that the Garnier Micellar Water can get foaming when applying it to a cotton pad, but maybe it's just how the product dispenses. Is it a substitute for makeup removers? Absolutely not - it's more of a gentle toner which is nice for when I'm feeling a bit oily. Also a thumbs up in my books!

Can you tell the difference between Micellar Waters?

I thought I was succeeding in my no-buy goal for the year, but then remembered that I bought a bunch of NYX liquid lipsticks... And then the L'Oreal Warehouse Sale happened... And then this happened... So I guess I've officially broken the challenge. I have mixed feelings about this because I'm supposed to save, but makeup is my siren.
On the bright side, everything I snatched in all these goodies at a discount! I'm excited to try my first Bourjois product. After hearing so many good reviews of the Healthy Balance liquid foundation, I decided to try the Healthy Balance Unifying Powder which I got for 30% off using my friend's retail discount. Next up are the Urban Decay lipsticks that are going at 50% off at Sephoras and Shoppers Drug Marts due to their reformulation and packaging. At $13 a pop, I managed to grab:
Catfight - pink-fuschia with slightly red undertones
Shame - deep berry
F Bomb - classic red
All three colours are beautiful, apply smoothly and last quite long. My only issue is with Shame because it can get a bit patchy on the lips. You can notice the patchiness in application on my arm. It's definitely better with a berry gloss on top to even out the colour. For $13 though, I really can't complain!

What's your everyday lipstick colour?

CND has launched the VINYLUX Weekly Polish line that is meant to last a week (or more). CND's VINYLUX polish is very much similar to no-cure gel polishes and fall within that price range, selling for $12.50 a bottle. The good thing about this polish is that it is 7-FREE: free from toluene, camphor, formaldehyde, phthalates (DBP), formaldehyde resin, xylene, or lead. I'm wearing Digi-Teal, more of a bright peacock blue rather than a teal.
CND Vinylux Digi-teal, nail polish
I feel like I’m cheating during this review because I have recently been getting my nails done with biogel. Working in retail leaves my nails chipped, cracked, and peeled till no tomorrow and the only way to keep my nails intact was to get them done. With that being said, nail polishes in general do not chip as easily on biogel nails because the nails aren’t flexible enough for the polish to crack or bend. Most of the wear I experienced with the polish was at the tips, which seems to be fairly normal with fake nails.
The nail polish is quite thick and leaves a streaky first coat, with the second, and sometimes third, coat filling in the ridges to smoothen out the look. This polish takes a bit of time to dry and leaves a nice opaque finish. As a regular polish, I'm impressed, but compared to other no-cure gel polishes, it's pretty standard.

Have you tried any CND products? How were they?

I never tried any Juicy Couture scents until World Mastercard Fashion Week 2015 where handfuls of samples were shoved at you, and boy am I glad they did! (Plus, you know, free stuff is always amazing). I really fell in love with Juicy Couture’s Viva La Juicy, so you can imagine how excited I was to receive Viva La Juicy Rose in my Dave Lackie x CityLine swag bag. I kid you now, Liz from Stay Gorgeous looked at me as if I was another species.

Viva La Juicy Rose (1.7 fl oz / $89) is packaged in bottle that is covered in an ombre rose to gold glitter and comes with a champagne bottle charm. The fragrance has notes of Italian mandarin, william pear, jasmine petals, rose centifolia absolute, white peony, jasmine sambac, orris absolute, benzoin and ambrox.

Viva La Juicy Rose is equal parts floral, fruity and fizzy – like in sparkling wine. The scent actually reminds me of Victoria Secret’s Strawberries and Champagne. I am personally not a fan and prefer the sweeter smelling Viva La Juicy, but if you’re a fan of Strawberries and Champagne, or like the scent from corking a champagne, I’d definitely recommend this perfume.

Have you ever owned a Juicy Couture tracksuit? I swear they were all the rage a couple years back!

L'Occitane recently had a giveaway on their Facebook page for the Shea Starter Kit. This kit comes with a Shea Butter Light Comforting Cream (8ml) and a Shea Butter Dry Skin Hand Cream (10ml) in cute little tin! I just barely missed the deadline on the offer, but found out that these are now for sale for only $6 with a value of $12!
L'Occitane, hand cream, comforting cream, spring into shea
I've always been a fan of L'Occitane hand creams and they come in so many scents. The Shea Butter collection is my favourite collection from L'Occitane, with a clean and fresh scent similar to baby powder. Don't worry if you've missed this offer because L'Occitane often has promotions like these which are advertised through their Instagram, Facebook and Emails!

In April, I was able to attend FAT - Fashion Art Toronto thanks to SideBuy. FAT is a 5 day fashion and art show that features Canadian and International fashion designers and artists according to the theme of the day. The event is held at Daniel's Spectrum in Downtown Toronto where doors open at 5:30pm, and the first of 3 fashion shows start at 7pm and runs until about 10:30pm. In between shows, there are a mix of video clips, musical performances and half hour intermissions.
In comparison to Toronto Fashion Week, FAT is definitely more entertaining but also more time consuming. Both days I went, the shows did not start until 7:30pm and intermission resulted in long bar lines, washroom lines and the high chance that your seat will be taken so you'll have to stand for the rest of the next runway show. Although it was a bit unorganized, it was still fun to attend and I would definitely go again if given the chance.

Here are some the designers that stood out most to me:

TUESDAY - UN DRESS

With Love Lingerie
Photo Credit: Canada Wears - Raymond Chow
I love the combination of black lace and bright flowers. I also love that With Love Lingerie included models of all sizes!

Elizabeth Elwood
Elizabeth Elwood created beautiful lingerie dresses and played with different textures and materials. This was my favourite piece and it looks absolutely stunning.

WEDNEDAY - GENDER WEAR

Evan Biddell

Evan Biddell's show REBEL was a pretty cool tribute to David Bowie where some models rocked down the runway. Paired with the liveliness and energy of the crowd, this runway show was definitely memorable.

 Sun Sun

Sun Sun's street style clothing was super trendy and hip. This show definitely got the crowd going with the models walking and dancing down the runway to songs by popular artists like Beyonce. I loved that each model did a pose or dance move halfway down the strip and were able to add their own little twist to the show. Another bonus - curvy women!

I was invited to a LUSH factory tour and of course I said HELL YES! The factory tour was held at the Etobicoke site where I joined fellow bloggers Zubie (Living The Grey), Vanessa (The Brunette Salad), and Alyssa and Johanna (Random Acts of Pastel). Here, we got a peek of all the magic that happens behind these amazing products and make some of our own to take home! I'm going to start off with the products we got to take home because some of these goodies are new! (New products will be marked with a *.)
Brazened Honey (Fresh Face Mask)
Brazened Honey is so fresh that it's only sold in stores! It smells of pollen and provides a tingly feel to the skin before exfoliation with ground almonds.
Sunrise* (Soap)
Sunrise comes in with an orange punch at first but then fades to a floral scent.
Avobath (Bath Bomb)
Avobath smells strongly of lemongrass and contains real avocado! I know what you're thinking - how on earth does avocado go into a bath bomb? Magic my friend.
Creamy Candy Bubble Bar (Bubble Bar)
This bubble bar smells like the foamy top of a cream soda - I know it sounds weird but you'll have to judge it yourself!
Yummy Mummy LE (Shower Cream)
This limited edition shower cream has a  light citrus and floral scent. It smells really familiar but I just can't quite put my finger on it.
Rose Jam Bubbleroon (Bubble Bar)
This bubbleroon is so cute and sparkly and has a rose scent.
Ladybug* (Bubble Bar)
This smells really similar to Creamy Candy Bar but with mint. I think they're just all starting to smell the same...
Lava Lamp* (Bath Bomb)
Lava Lamp has a sweet citrus smell. Originally only sold at the Oxford location, it's now coming to a store near you!
Yuzu and Cocoa (Bubble Bar)
We shaped these and took them home without the cocoa inner filling, so for me it just smells like oranges hehe.
Soaps:
Respect Your Elders*
This smells like berries and elderflower.
Maypole*
My favourite of the bunch! It smells mint white chocolate! *drool*
Outback Mate*
Outback Mate has eucalyptus which provides a minty herbal smell. My nose kind of got clogged smelling all these (TMI - sorry!) but this just cleared the path!
Serendipity*
I'm not a fan of certain lavender smells, but this one is sweet and subtle. I like!
Layer Cake*
Made with real fruit juice, Layer Cake smells and looks like LifeSavers.

Onto the factory tour! We first started off in the bath bomb section and got to help make our own Avobath bath bombs! These were the ingredients that went into our bath bombs along with sodium bicarbonate.

Our tub of Avobath before molding. This was the smallest amount they could make for one batch - regular batch is like 10 times the size!

Because we're such pros (or they were just being nice), we got to mold Lava Lamp bath bombs, which will be a new release :).
Crates upon crates of bath bombs! I asked a compounder how much she makes a day she said it's dependant on the daily goal. Her goal for that day was 28 crates!
Here, Jared was showing us the swirling technique to create Outback Mate.
A display of all the new soaps in their full size.
This Charity Pot corner is in the lunch room. I really like that LUSH keeps track of it and encourages employees to follow along.
Starting to make our Brazened Honey mask. It's one of the masks with the most ingredients!
Compounders shaping Brightside bubble bars.
Finished trays of Rose Jam Bubbleroons.
The LUSH factory tour was super fun! I swear LUSH always hosts the best events. I love that we got to make our own products. There was quite a bit of the tour that I didn't cover, but it was a fun filled day. My nose was suffering a little bit at the end because the smell gets overwhelming when you're not used to it. Can't wait for the next LUSH event!

What was your latest LUSH purchase? Mine was the Massage Bar tin and the Body Butter tin for travelling!

The Toronto Vegetarian Association is kicking off the fifth year of Veggielicious! Veggielicious is a two-week celebration of vegetarian and vegan cuisine. From May 6-22, over 40 restaurants across the GTA will be featuring vegetarian and vegan prix-fixe menus and deals. I was invited to the kick-off party that showcased some participating restaurants in Veggielicious this year.
First up is Kupfert and Kim, a vegan quick-service restaurant with 6 locaions across Toronto.
Oxaca
Oxaca

 First Canadian Place
First Canadian Place
Attendees got to choose a sample of their two best sellers: Oxaca and First Canadian Place. Oxaca is basically a vegan burrito bowl, so I decided to choose something different and got First Canadian Place. I've never tried tempeh before and I'm not yet sold, but the rest of the dish was delish! I now understand the hype with Kupfert and Kim because they make a pretty darn good vegan meal!
Tabule is a Lebanese restaurant with 2 locations in Toronto, offering vegetarian dishes.
Attendees got to try their homemade dishes: Falafel, Rice Pudding, and Hummus & Babaganuj. I really enjoyed all three dishes and it's hard to pick a favourite, but I really liked the rice pudding because I believe it's either vegan or gluten free (I'm forget which one).Falafel, rice pudding, hummus, babaganuj
Fabarnak is located on Church Street and also offers catering.
squash risotto, falafel
Attendees got to sample Squash Risotto and Falafel on a Pita. I've never tried Squash Risotto, because vegetables, but I was pleasantly surprised but think it would have been better with a bit of cheese. The Falafel was okay, but Tabule's was much better.
Squash Risotto, falafel
Saving the best for last - Sweets from the Earth, a vegan bakery with both gluten free and nut free options. Sweets from the Earth had an amazing display of some of the desserts they make. My friend and I tried the Sour Cream Coffee Cake Muffin and Apple Crumble Pie Square, both of which are nut free. I also took home a S'mores Cookie and it beat the other two by far! Curious about the marshmallows, the rep said they make their own vegan marshmallows in house! (Or factory I guess).
coffee cake, apple crumble
Beau's was there as well, sampling their many craft beers as the Beer Partner for Veggielicious. I'm not a fan of beer, but through my professional experience, I guess, the guys at Beau's are honestly so nice and down to earth. It's great to see local Canadian breweries become successful in the industry.
Not pictures is Foodoora who is the Delivery Partner of Veggielicious, delivering meals on bikes to help save the environment. If you haven't tried to order from Foodora yet, use the coupon code: CANEVVB5Cs to get $10 off your first order (until 07/31/2016).

Honestly, I don't think vegetarian/vegan life is for me because I really don't like vegetables, but I really liked everything I tried here. I also don't think I've consciously tried vegetarian or vegan food, but after this experience I'm definitely more open to it. I love that Toronto is such a diverse city that has so many dietary options available for those who are vegetarian/vegan.

Are you a vegetarian or vegan? Have any vegetarian or vegan restaurant suggestions within the GTA?
