Pink Petals

April is here and so is Spring! (Although it really doesn't feel like it in Toronto...). I tried to do some Spring cleaning and it sort of worked... Okay no it didn't, but I managed to find some things to toss including make up - so let's get started with this month's empties!

Rating Guide:
☆ - All aboard the nope train!
☆☆ - Meh... I'm indifferent...
☆☆☆ - YAAASSSSSS
Samples / Deluxe Samples
Jergens Ultra Care Extra Dry Skin Moisturizer ☆☆
Jergens Moisturizer for Wet Skin with Coconut Oil ☆☆☆
This moisturizer feels great and smells great. I love that it's made for wet skin so it glides on and feels watery instead of oily.
J.R Watkins Rejuvenating Foot Cream in Peppermint ☆☆
Caudalie  Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet ☆☆
John Masters Organics  Lavender Rosemary Shampoo & Lavender Avocado Conditioner ☆☆☆
I absolutely love the smell of this shampoo and conditioner, it doesn't smell like the bad lavender, if that makes sense. This lavender has a sweet smell to it and reminds me of lavender white hot chocolate.

Full Size
Biore Combination Skin Balancing Cleanser ☆☆☆
My absolute favourite cleanser. I've been using this for years and prefer this over all other cleansers that I've tried. It lathers well, has a fresh clean scent and works well with my skin.

Tosses
Maybelline The Falsies Volum' Express ☆☆☆
I love this mascara but I lost this one a while back so it's way past it's due date.
Caryl Baker Foundation Primer
The lid is stuck so I wasn't able to try the product.
Mario Badesco Drying Cream
The lid was also stuck to this one - but even if it wasn't I probably would have still tossed this - I just don't have a use for it.

Did you do any Spring cleaning this month?

Wet n Wild's New On Edge Longwearing Eye Pencils are basically a gel liner but in a pencil form. Like most of Wet n Wild products, these eye pencils are cruelty free and come in six different shades:
You're the Yin
Wooden You Know
Violet Offender
Shock Therapy
Sapphire and Ice
To My Yang
The eye pencils are super pigmented and creamy. I don't think they live up to their longwearing name, but they still last a couple hours before smudging. One good thing about the eye pencils is that if they do smudge, it doesn't take much to get it off as they are not waterproof. If smudged/smokey makeup is the look you're going for then I would definitely recommend these because they smudge beautifully due to their creamy texture.

However, their creamy texture can be kind of annoying. during my second use of the black pencil, the tip of the gel liner broke off, leaving a stub of wood. I didn't have an eye pencil sharpener handy so I had to finish the rest of my eyeliner with another pencil liner. Actually, I still haven't sharpened the liner because that situation alone deters me from wanting to use it again - it would definitely be easier if these were twist up liners.
If you don't mind the extra care for these liners, I would definitely check them out!

Do you prefer pencil, liquid of gel liners?

One of the great things about living in Toronto is being able to attend Fashion Week! Luckily, I was invited to the Mondor show and got to experience some Toronto Fashion Week TLC at David Pecaut Square.
This year, there were many vendors (are they called vendors? booths? advertisers?) at TFW. Some highlights were:
Maybelline offered a free Vivid Matte Liquid Lipstick for those who entered their Instagram contest
Swarovski allowed visitors to get a tarot card reading which resulted in a sparkly bracelet in the near future
Neostrata had a booth where you could test some of their products and take a couple samples home
Microsoft let you design a nail which could be printed using their 3D printers
Now, for the show! Mondor is a Canadian brand that showcased some pretty awesome legwear and allowed each of us to take either a pair of thigh high socks or sockettes home with us. I didn't quite know what to expect during the show, but once the models came out in tights and leggings, I knew I was going to like it. I'm a plain jane when it comes to leggings and tights, I just like them black and durable - but Mondor adds a bit of spunk to their legwear. Most of the legwear was in black and/or white and looked amazing comfy and fashionable. BONUS: they're also affordable! Here are some of my favourites:
(Unfortunately, my camera didn't do well with the bright lights so I will be using photos by George Pimentel from Getty Images.)

I love the look of these two pairs of tights and think they would look great with either a dress or some shorts.
Missima Plaid Tights ($20)
Garter Belt Effect Tights ($15)
Leggings with leather details are all the rage, but with these two you can get the look without the leather!
Triangle Leggings ($50)
What do you prefer wearing, leggings or tights?

Time for another Influenster VoxBox! Man, it's been a long time since I got one of these. This VoxBox features Biore's new Baking Soda Line with the Baking Soda Pore Cleanser and the Baking Soda Cleansing Scrub.
I've always been a fan of Biore cleansers and always find myself going back tot them, so it was really interesting to try the new baking soda line. Baking soda can sound a bit harsh for the skin, but surprisingly both the cleanser and scrub are super gentle on the skin.
The Baking Soda Pore Cleanser is gentle, scentless, lathers up really well and has little bead-like lumps for exfoliating. It does a fairly decent job in removing make up, but I would remove heavy make up before using this cleanser. I have no complaints about this cleanser, or Biore cleansers in general for that matter. Although it seems like a small detail, I love how easy it is to use - just pump and cleanse!
The Baking Soda Cleansing Scrub is just as gentle of a scrub, has a light citrus scent and lathers up quite well. The process of using the scrub is a bit unique - with a wet face, pour out a quarter size amount of powder and add water until it becomes the desired consistency/lather. I like that the powder to water ratio is customizable which may be better for those with sensitive skin, but if you're lazy like me, that's just one extra step too many. I would not use this everyday but it definitely is gentle enough to use up to every other day. One thing I'm not a fan about is that it leaves a slimy feel for the first couple minutes after use - sort of like a layer of film on the skin.

What do you think about using baking soda in cleansers?

Last week I got a chance to attend the CityLine x Dave Lackie taping airing on March 4th at 9am EST and 4pm EST. I have never attended a taping before so this was completely new and exciting for me. This taping was particularly special because all the members of the audience were Dave Lackie's Twitter followers and I got to meet Tonya from Tonya Talks Beauty and Hailey from Hailey's Workshop.
I won't spoil the show, but it has shows some gorgeous Spring outfits from Winners as well as beautiful prom dresses from The Bay. Dave Lackie presents some upcoming make up products while two audience members get their hair and make up done. The one thing that blew our minds were the super generous gift bags, gift cards and the hand written note from Dave.
I'm so excited to try out these new products and hope to attend some more tapings!

Have you attended any show tapings or film sets?
