Pink Petals

I organized my makeup a little bit this month and found some products to toss. I'm trying to declutter my makeup but the hoarder inside me keeps fighting back. Hopefully I can toss out some more next month!

Rating Guide:
☆ - All aboard the nope train!
☆☆ - Meh... It's okay
☆☆☆ - YAAASSSSSS!!
Full Size:
La Fresh Oil-Free Face Cleanser ☆
I found that this wasn't effective at removing makeup.
Garnier Fructis Anti-Frizz Smoothing Cream  ☆ ☆ ☆
I love all of Garnier Fructis hair creams and treat it as a leave in conditioner.
The Body Shop Vanilla Brulee Body Butter  ☆ ☆
I love The Body Shop body butters, but I personally am not a fan of this scent.
LUSH Outback Mate Soap ☆ ☆ ☆
This soap smells so fresh and clean, and I think it's a pretty gender neutral scent so the boyfriend helped in using it up!

Sample Size:
Vichy Calming Cleansing Micellar Solution  ☆ ☆

Tosses:
Covergirl Katy Kat Eye Mascara in Blue
It's not a bad mascara, I'm just not adventurous enough to pull it off.
Sephora Nano Eyeliner in Silver Green x 2
These eyeliners are super old so it's finally time to go.
Clark's Botanicals Intense Radiance Mask
This mask dried out so I didn't get a chance to try it out.
Covergirl Bombshell Volume 2in1
Not a fan of this mascara because it really sticks to the lashes and is difficult to remove, even with an oil based eye makeup remover.
L'oreal Wear Infinite Eyeshadow Duo in Peach Parfait
This was one of my first eyeshadows ever... enough said.

Winterlicious is a great time to try out some restaurants within a price budget. For $18, my friend and I checked out the Momofuku Noodle Bar. We got to sit right on the island of the kitchen and watch the cooks prepare out food. Most of the ingredients were prepped before open so only assembly was needed – a great method for getting food out fast especially considering how busy it was.
For snacks, we got the chicken meatball bun and the pork belly bun. The buns were soft, warm and mildly chewy with a hint of sweetness to them. The chicken meatballs were perfectly seasoned and came with ssam sauce, lettuce and smoked pickle - but could have used some more texture to in the meat as they were fairly large. The pork belly was soft and had the right amount of BBQ sauce and came with a bit of slaw and sweet pickle – but would have been better with a piece of crispy skin added.
Onto the noodle bowls! We got the tan tan ramen and beef udon noodle. The tan tan ramen had just enough soup to cover the noodles and was dressed with ground spicy chicken, bok choy, green onion, and a soft boiled egg topped with sesame and spices. The ramen was good, probably one of the best ramen I’ve ever had as it wasn’t too spicy, salty or filling. The only thing I would swap out is the ground chicken for cuts of chicken. The beef udon noodle came with slices of beef and pickled onion, green onion, basil, xian spice and cured yolk. The last three ingredients were questionable as we didn’t see or taste it, but the beef udon was fairly delicious with a flavour similar to curry and provided a bit of kick as the spiciness caught up to you throughout the meal.
Dessert consisted of the coke float soft serve and the spiced chocolate mousse. The coke float soft serve was an interesting twist although it was served to us a bit runny. The flavour tasted similar to coke, but the spices in the soft serve were more pronounced than the sweetness compared to actual coke. The spiced chocolate mousse was served cold and came in a cute little jar. It was rich and had the density of a ganache rather than a mousse, and was decorated with honeycomb toffee bits. I was worried that this would be too spicy, but there was just enough Sichuan spice to enhance the chocolate flavour.

I probably wouldn’t go the Momofuku Noodle Bar on the reg, but it’s definitely a place where you should try at least once if you’re in Toronto, a foodie, a noodle enthusiast or all three.

Did you attend Winterlicious or try any new restaurants lately?

Estee Lauder hopped right on the cushion foundation train last Fall with the release of the Double Wear Nude Cushion Stick Radiant Makeup ($46). This foundation is more like a hybrid between a regular compact cushion foundation and a beauty blender where a twist of the bottom pumps the liquid foundation to the surface of a sponge tip. This foundation comes in 13 different shades – mine being 3N1 for my NC25 skin.
I’m generally not a fan of sponge tip applicators mainly because of hygienic purposes since the sponge tip is (usually) not removable – this product is no different. I mean, it’s not bad, but another applicator is definitely necessary. The tip is just too small for the face and it’s not a bouncy as a beauty blender, so I found myself swiping more than dabbing, especially since the foundation dries fairly quickly. After applying, I would go over my face again with a face brush and blend it all one more time before powdering.
The formula of this foundation, however, is freaking amazing! This foundation has the amazing ability to seamlessly blend into the skin with its light and watery formula. I have random dry spots on my face (mainly between my eyebrows and nose), and some foundations enunciate the dryness and flakiness no matter how I put it on, but this foundation applied beautifully on these difficult spots. The coverage is between light and medium with about 8 hours of wear. I find that one layer is perfect for natural coverage where you skin is still visible, but is definitely buildable. I almost forgot to mention the best part: it works extremely well on my combination skin and doesn’t leave my skin feeling or looking oily at the end of the day.
I love the idea of this foundation and overall I think it would be a great foundation for travelling and on the go touch ups. Personally, I don’t care much for the sponge applicator, but I would buy this solely for the foundation itself.

What’s your Holy Grail foundation?

Last week, I was a lucky attendee in the Chloe Love Story Eau Sensuelle brunch with Dave Lackie. The brunch was held at the Colette Grand Cafe in downtown Toronto, and the decor of this cafe is absolutely stunning. I felt like I was a Pinterest princess here with the beautiful pillars, fresh flowers and rustic yet modern decor. The meal was a choice between buttermilk pancakes or eggs benedict on a croissant, both accompanied by petit fours and fresh fruit.
Fun fact #1: Chloe's pleated bottles are designed after the Chloe Fashion line which is known for their pleats.

Special guest Dianne Sonnenberg, VP of Marketing and Sales, was there to offer industry advice. It was such a great opportunity to hear about her experience and how she got to where she is now in her career. I think the best advice given was that any experience is still experience and will bring value to any job.
Fun fact #2: The Chloe Love Eau Sensuelle is inspired by the love locks placed on the Ponts des Arts bridge in Paris.

The star of the event, Chloe's Love Story Eau Sensuelle, launched in Janaury of this year and is available at Hudson's Bay and Sephora ($112 for 50ml | $154 for 75ml). Chloe perfumes are typically focused on florals - more so roses. Love Story Eau Sensuelle, however, takes a citrusy spin with orange blossom as the main scent and notes of musky vanilla and heliotrope. I'm in love with this scent! It's sweet and citrusy scent makes it fun while the floral notes keep it feminine.
I'm so happy that I was able to attend such a fabulous event. We were each sent home with a bottle of Love Story Eau Sensuelle, a Chloe notebook, a Chloe bookmark, two macarons and a tin of Sloane blood orange oolong tea.

Are you a fan of Chloe fragrances or fashion?

John Frieda isn't new to the hair game but they sure know how to change it! The Miraculous Recovery Collection contains a shampoo, conditioner and deep conditioner. The shampoo and conditioner are meant to target damaged areas and instantly restore to reverse 87% of surface damage while the weekly deep conditioner intensely repairs and fortifies and resists future damage for 80% less breakage.
For hair products, I'm pretty big on the scent although it's usually not a problem since they usually smell great, but damn these smell even better! The scent reminds me more of a perfume than a regular shampoo - clean and sweet with a hint of floral. Not going to lie, I probably spent a whole minute sniffing it when I first opened the box.

The shampoo cleans well without leaving my hair feeling dry. I'm not a fan of the squeeze tube though - oddly enough, it doesn't make it easier to dispense, but just for the shampoo. The conditioner is moisturizing without that weird greasy feeling afterwards. The deep conditioner though, is a freaking game changer - it's not too heavy for a deep conditioner and like the conditioner, it doesn't leave that greasy feeling. Once a week with the deep conditioner is enough for my hair to feel and look smooth, even though it's damaged  beyond belief after the countless bleaches and dye jobs I've had this past year.

What's your secret to keeping your hair healthy?

Australian based Dr. Roebuck's launched in Canada this past Fall and can be purchased at Shoppers Drug Mart, Murale and beautyBOUTIQUE.ca. I was fortunate enough to attend the launch and learn more about the brand. Dr. Roebuck's products use minimum ingredients for maximum results. Their products are not tested on animals and are free from BPA, parabens and harmful chemicals and fillers.
Face ($59.95) is one of their best sellers and is an active, anti-aging facial formula that improves cell regeneration, softens fine lines and repairs damaged skin. Active ingredients include: rosehip oil, vitamin e oil and macadamia oil.
I generally dismiss everything labelled "anti-ageing", but this moisturizer is light and has that natural product smell (Physicians Formula liquid products have this smell, so I associate it with natural ingredients). A little goes a long way and I prefer to use this as an overnight moisturizer as it's a little bit thick.

Natural Cleansing Wipes ($15.95), are hydrating antioxidant wipes that come infused with active ingredients to purify the skin and remove all traces of makeup, impurities and excess oil. Active ingredients include: aloe vera, pomegranate, witch hazel and organic glycerin.
I really like these cleansing wipes - it does it's job and saved me a couple times when my makeup was really bothering me. I like that it has witch hazel too, so it also acts like a toner.

Dr. Roebuck's expanded serum line launched in January 2017 while the Ultimate Hydrating Serum was part of the Fall 2016 launch. All of the serums are infused with a powerful base called the "CNYouthMolecule" -  a blend of carnosine, hyaluronic acid, vitamin A, vitamin C, and vitamin E. Each serum has their own unique active ingredients to achieve the desired effects. The manny types of serums available are:
Ultimate Hydrating Serum ($79.95) - active ingredients: creatine, ubiquinone, vitamin B3 and aloe vera.
Reverse Aging Serum ($79.95) - active ingredients: creatine, gatuline in-tense, vitamin B3, evening primrose oil, borage seed oil and aloe vera.
Protect and Prevent Serum ($79.95) - active ingredients: inca inchi oil, ginseng, myramaze and aloe vera.
Boost and Tighten Serum ($79.95) - active ingredients: pullulan, rosehip extract, inca inchi oil and creatine.
I only got to try the Ultimate Hydrating Serum so far, and it's been an absolute life saver in the dry winter months. Because I have pretty oily skin, I use this at night as I find it can be a bit heavy for day wear.

I'm really happy that Dr. Roebuck's made it's way to Canada. I'll admit, it's not the most affordable skincare products out there, but it's great for those who are really conscious of what their skincare products are made of. I'll probably continue to purchase the makeup wipes and I'm definitely interested in their toner.

How conscious of you about the ingredients in your skincare/makeup products?
