Pink Petals

Winter weather is extremely harsh on our faces, especially in Canada. The lips, in my opinion, suffer the most since they easily dry, crack and peel. One way to make sure your lips stay soft this winter is by using lip scrubs!

Lip scrubs are super easy to use, all you have to do is literally scrub it on your lips at least once a week, depending on how cracked your lips are. The only store that I could find which sells lip scrubs is Lush Cosmetics. The scrubs are $9.95 and come in 4 flavours: Sweet Lips (chocolate), Mint Julep (mint chocolate), Popcorn and Bubblegum. They all smell and taste really good! (You lick them off your lips when you finish scrubbing). I recently purchased Mint Julep which actually tastes like a sweet mint, not really chocolatey. I really like how Lush puts who the product was made by and the date it was made as well as the use by date. Something that a lot of people tend to forget about cosmetics is that it won't last forever.
If you don't have a Lush nearby or would rather not spend the money, you can always make your own!

You'll need:
- a small clean resealable jar
- brown and/or white sugar (not powder)
- vaseline OR coconut oil
So to make your own lip scrub, we're going to mix the sugar and vaseline / coconut oil in a 2:1 ratio (2 spoons sugar and 1 spoon vaseline or oil). I'd suggest using a teaspoon to measure so you don't make too much scrub, it'll last a while. For the container, I emptied out a dried out Elf cream eyeliner I had. If you are using a makeup container and are having trouble cleaning it, try wiping the container with vaseline and repeat until it's clean :).

The choice between vaseline and coconut oil depends on your own personal preference, both are edible and will have more or less the same result. I'm not comfortable eating vaseline so I went with coconut oil which can range from $6-15 a jar depending on location (I got mine at a local South Asian mart).

The type of sugar is also up to you, I decided to mix both sugars. If you have a local spice store, take a look and see if they have flavoured sugar! If you can't find any but would like to make it flavoured, I'd suggest looking at flavouring oils such as mint (NOT extracts). And please don't use coloured sugar, it will stain your lips and finger when you scrub!

If you made your own lip scrub, let me know what you think below! :)

This is my first Butter London nail polish. I never knew what was so special about this brand until now. The formula is AMAZING! It's not streaky, the colour is opaque, dries pretty fast and it literally glides on your nail. What I mean is that some nail polishes, like Essie, can be streaky and when you press too hard on the second coat, it penetrates the first and you have a streak of thin polish which is almost impossible to fix without redoing the nail. I'm definitely going to be investing in Butter London polishes in the future.

The Old Bill at first glance looks like the average gold nail polish but when applied to the nail it looks stunning. The colour is inbetween a rose gold and a muted brassy gold. I took a picture below and used the filter that looked most like the colour in real life but lacks the shimmer, so I took one with flash for reference. This polish is opaque so one coat is all you need (but I was so addicted to the effortless glide that I put two coats :P). This colour will match any skin type and can be a pop of colour or more of a nude depending on what you're wearing.

If you've been eyeing this polish for some time, you should definitely get it, I swear you won't regret it :).

Starlet | Intense Eyeliner
Full Size: $11
Sample: FULL SIZE
Benefit | They're Real Mascara
Full Size: 0.3 oz ($29)
Sample: 0.01 oz ($9.67)

TheBalm | Meet Matt(e) Eyeshadow (Matt Batali)
Full Size: Meet Matt(e) Palette - 9 shadows ($34.50)
Sample: 1 shadow ($3.83)
myglam | Glam Gloss
Full Size: 0.23 oz (not for sale by ipsy, so I'm just going to put this as $5)
Sample: FULL SIZE
eclos | Anti-Aging Regenerating Cream
Full Size: 2 oz ($24.99)
Sample: 0.25 oz ($3.12)

Total Value: $45.62

I'm really happy with my first ever Ipsy bag. I can see myself using everything except for the anti-aging cream. The nail polish will be great during the holidays where red and gold shine. I'm glad I got the glam lip gloss instead of the vibrant red one from bare minerals because its a lovely pink shade and smells REALLY good! As for the mascara and eyeshadow, you can never go wrong with benefit or thebalm :). Have yet to try the eyeliner and I'm not in a rush with the recent  addition from my topbox.

What do you think of Ipsy?

Here's what I got in the November Topbox :)
Pandora's Makeup Box | Pandora's Polish and Perfume (Floral Passion)
Full Size: $24.50 / pair
Sample: FULL SIZE
Make Up Forever | Aqua Eyes (Mat Black 0L)
Full Size: 0.04 oz ($20)
Sample: 0.025 oz ($12.5)
Cuccio Naturale | Butter Blend
Full Size: 240 g ($18.95)
Sample: 9.24 g ($0.73)

Total Value: $37.73

Overall, I'm quite content with this month's box. I really like the nail polish duo, but I personally wish I got Aqua Pretty instead of Floral Passion. I have yet to try out the polish but the perfume smells really nice, it's a musky citrus scent, which surprises me because I'm not a big fan of musk. The Aqua Eyes pencil is really nice black for lining the water line and will last a long time doing so. The butter blend will be going to my mother because luckily I don't have dry skin (except my knees and elbows ><), but I really like the packaging of the product for a sample since you can reseal it, unlike Burt's Bees samples.

Let me know what you thought of this month's box :)

Julep's Hoch is from the Trina Turk Fall '12 collection. It's a beautiful deep teal colour with more of a forest green hue than blue. It goes on opaque, so you can get away with justbone coat if you're in a rush!

Recently, I purchased a bunch of essie polishes at the L'oreal warehouse sale. I'm going to start posting pictures of these polishes as well as others in my ginormous collection :).
Here is Essie's Sole Mate. It's a beautiful deep burgandy colour and goes on semi-opaque so I painted two coats to make it really dark. I really love this colour for the fall/winter season.

After a disappointing October Topbox, I'm so glad that Topbox decided to give away Lise Watier Topboxes in Toronto. They gave these away a couple weeks ago but I didn't have a chance to get one. Thankfully, Topbox released an extra 100 boxes to 5 different Shoppers Drug Marts within the GTA this past Friday and I finally got one!

Here's what I got in the Lise Watier box :)
Plumpissimo Le Gloss (Nude)
Full Size: 6.2 ml ($21)
Sample: 1.5 ml ($5.08)
Hydrasmart 3D Hydration Cream
Full Size: 50 ml ($40)
Sample: 30 ml ($24)
Frisson Neiges Twist and Spray Set
Purse Spray with Refill
Full Size: 30 ml ($40), 50 ml ($59)
Sample: 40 ml total ($47.20)

Total Value: $76.28

I really love the perfume samples! They smell so nice and fruity, the packaging is genius (twist to open and spray) and it's a proper sample. Not like the vials we all know and hate. I'm kind of disappointed in the lip gloss though because when I opened it to take the picture, some bristles on the brush were sticking out as you can see. I probably won't use the hydration cream because I have combination skin but Christmas is coming and re-gifting is always a good way to save money! :P

I'm curious to know if Topbox sent these samples to other parts in Canada, let me know if you got one :).

Here's what I got in this month's box:
Gillette | Venus & Olay Razor
Each: ($16.99)

 Jouviance | Rejuvinating Anti-Aging Cream
Full size: 50 ml ($93.50)
Sample size: 5 ml ($9.35)

Modelco | Flipstick Lip Duo (Dusk Lipstick, Striptease Gloss)
Full size: each ($38.75)
Sample: FULL SIZE
Zoya | Nail Lacquer (Rory)
Full size: 15 ml ($8.00)
Sample: FULL SIZE

Sebastian | Professional Trilliance Shampoo & Conditioner
Full size: 250 ml ($15.79 & $16.59)
 Sample:  50 ml each ($3.16 & $3.18)

Total GlossyBox worth: $79.43

I'm actually disappointed in this month's box. I absolutely hate shavers. I probably have like 15 lying around still packaged because I keep getting them in beauty boxes or for free at random events. I liked the lipstick and gloss duo had nice packaging but I'm not sure how the two colours will look together. What I know for sure though is that $40 is way too much for it.
