Pink Petals

Happy Holidays everyone! In the spirit of giving, I have teamed up with Johnny's Chop Shop for an amazing giveaway, valued over $80. If you're unfamiliar with Johnny's Chop Shop, they are a breakthrough barbershop and male grooming brand that fuses 1950s and 1960s retro style and modern day trend. It's all about crafting honest, slick styles for guys who want to be well-groomed with attitude.
My FH has already given their Wild Cat Hair Clay a try and he absolutely loves it, especially because the compact metal tin is super convenient for his trips between Ottawa and Toronto. He also recently grew out his beard for Movember, so the Beard Oil is definitely going to be handy for the holidays.

Although this giveaway will run through Christmas, it'll be a great start to the New Year! Keep scrolling for giveaway rules, details, and to enter. Good luck!

Fellow Canadians! This year will be Canada's 150th birthday on July 1st, and Nail Polish Canada wants you to celebrate with them by using these Canadian Flag Nail Stencils by Whats Up Nails ($5.65). Nail Polish Canada is generously offering FREE stencils to the first TEN readers of this post, so keep reading to find out how to claim yours!
These nail stencils are super easy to use - simply wait for your base coat to COMPLETELY DRY before applying the stencil and filling in the stencil. Wait for the stencil coat to COMPLETELY DRY before removing the stencil and finish with a top coat. Although easy, these stencils require some patience to let your nails COMPLETELY DRY  - which I have little of, evident by my nails below haha.
To create this look, I used Essie's Ole Caliente, Sally Hansen's White Out and a pair of tweezers to place and remove the stencils. I only applied to stencils to my index and ring finger, with my index finger having a clear base and a red maple leaf outline and my ring finger having a white base and a red filled maple leaf.
I haven't used vinyl nail stencils before, so this was a new and interesting experience. Whether you're a nail stencil newbie or pro, you too can decorate your nails this Canada Day by using this LINK and coupon code LGBK92966M3 to receive a FREE stencil (valid only for the FIRST TEN redemptions).

I would love to see your nails for Canada Day - with or without the use of these stencils - so link or tag your Instagram photos for some Canada Day inspo!

What are you doing to celebrate Canada Day?

Happy New Year everyone! I hope everyone had a lovely holiday season – I know I did! I kept busy working and celebrating all of December, leaving blogging on the back burner, but I’m back!

Looking back on my New Year’s Resolution for 2016, I focused a lot on cutting back and trying to lead a minimalist life. I succeeded in reading 10 books, saved some money and ultimately downsized my closet by a third. It’s not everything I wanted to do but it’s progress!

This year, I don’t think I’m going to set a New Year’s Resolution. Instead, I’m going to focus more on myself and my education as I’m approaching my forth and final year of my undergrad. I’ve been working part-time while going to school full time since I was legally able to, which usually made me happy because it kept me busy and on the move. But this past year I realized how unhappy I was at my current job and how it was affecting me mentally and physically, so I left. Don’t get me wrong – I’ll still have to find another part-time job but hopefully I’ll find one that makes me happy! I’m also hoping to be more consistent with blogging (props to everyone who blogs on the reg!).

Cheers to the New Year and New Beginnings!

And what better way to celebrate the New Year than a little giveaway!!! I’m more than thankful for the opportunity receive products for consideration and I would love nothing more than to give back to my lovely readers!

I’ll be giving away a Soft Focus Highlighting Palette valued at $30! The giveaway will end on January 31, 2017 at 11:59PM EST.

This year was my first year going to IMATS and it definitely will not be my last.
I expected IMATS to be more of a convention where beauty enthusiasts came to learn about the application of make up, but it seemed like a huge warehouse sale, similar to the one at the CNE. There were shows on the stages throughout the day, but it was hard to watch them all because the first half of the day consisted in standing in line to ensure you got your purchases before stands sold out, which they definitely did. There was also a lot of pushing and shoving, not much system going on around the booths. I think MAC had the best system where you were given a number with your name so you could cash out whenever. Make Up Forever did a name call, which if you didn't hear your name your product would go back, and it was pretty hard to hear your name among the chatter.

Keep reading to see what I purchased, the booths that stood out to me and the giveaway!
The Pixiwoo sisters and I *fans self*
They were super sweet and took the time to chat to everyone taking a picture with them.

The booths that stood out to me were:

MAC
- Ticketed purchasing system
- Fantastic sales associates
- Paper / Sales associate ordering
- Sold out of lip sticks very fast
- Debit/Credit only

Make Up Forever
- Name calling puchasing system
- Paper ordering
- No color matching

NARS
- Sales associate ordering
- $10 off every $70 or $80 spent
- Manual credit sales/ cash
- Wrong prices on the cards

Nigels
- Many shades of Ben Nye powder
- Sold out of products really quickly, like Too Faced products

Beauty Blender
- Awesome deals, a friend and I split 2 Beauty Blenders for $28

Morphe
- Abundance of brushes
- Great pigmented and cheap palettes
- Rude sales associate (just one, I'll tell the story at the end)
I loved the art of her arm and it was smudge proof.
She kept rubbing her arm to show us how lasting the paint was.
Purchases
Morphe ;
 Blush / Bronzer palette $10
(I purchased the display one because it was the last one let, a new one was $12)

Make Up Forever ;
HD primer $26

bdellium tools ;
Contour brush $9, Fluffy eye brush $5

MAC;
Studio Fix powder NC 25 $25.60
Lipstick Dare You $15.20
Lipstick Dubonnet $15.20
Total: $63.28

Beauty Blender ;
$28 for 2
(split this with my friend, check her Youtube channel out here)

Classique Nail and Esthetics Distributor
Dare to Wear $3
Essie $4

Styli Style Cosmetics ;
Glide-On Highlighter stick $5

GIVEAWAY TIME!
Although this wasn't purchased at IMATS, I thought it would be a nice product to giveaway.
The giveaway is a Sonia Kashuk Monochrome Eye Quad in Textured Mauve.
This giveaway is open to Canada and USA addresses only and will be closed on 12/08/14 at 11:59pm.
Enter below and good luck! :)

Morphe story:
When I was waiting in line for MAC, I was talking to a girl and she was so enthusiastic about the Morphe booth so I was determined to check it out. I knew I wanted a blush palette and a couple brushes. My friend was unsure and asked the sales associate to recommend some brushes, such as best sellers. I had already paid for my palette and was walking around looking at brushes with my friend. She asked the sales associate for a fluffy blending brush for eye shadows and  the sales associate gave her one, and she asked if there was a fluffier and rounder one and the sales associates response was "Look, you asked me for the best seller and that's what I'm giving you. It all about perspective, but this is a best seller. If you want something different then you can look."
Well then. Okay.
My friend ended up with 4 brushes and was told the total was $34, so she counted her change and it didn't add up. She asked me to count the change and it was indeed wrong.
So we told her she short changed us and another sales associate came to help, but the total was now $38. We said sorry and explained to the other sales associate we thought she said $34 and that's why we thought we were short, meanwhile she kept interjecting "No, honey. I told you it was $38. We went over it a couple times. I never said $34."
Well, yes, you did.
The second sales associate apologized about the miscommunication and we were on our way. I was going to buy some Morphe brushes too but decided bdellium tools was less troublesome.
