Sugar scrubs are great for exfoliating and cleansing the skin, especially if you’re conscious about the ingredients in your beauty products. MyChelle is especially conscious about their ingredients and are made without GMO, gluten, parabens, petroleum, phthalatses, silicons, sulfates, ureas, artificial fragrances and artificial colours. MyChelle products are also vegan, made with recycled packaging and is part of PETA's Beauty Without Bunnies Program.
For a while, I only found sugar scrubs for the body and lips but MyChelle’s Refining Sugar Cleanser ($32) is meant to be used for the face. To me, it sounded a bit weird at first because no way in heck would I just go and rub sugar on my face because someone told me to, so I was pretty interested to see if this scrub would cleanse or break out my skin.
First off, can I just say that this cleanser smells freaking amazing?! Its sweet vanilla scent strongly resembles a vanilla cupcake, but it isn't overly sweet. The cleanser itself is just the perfect consistency to exfoliate and cleanse with - not too watery and not too firm. This cleanser is meant to be used on a damp face and scrubbed until the sugar dissolves and then washed off. I like that this cleanser lathers as you go and fully dissolves. As I mentioned, I’ve only used sugar scrubs for the body and lips and I never waited for them to dissolve (maybe I’ve been doing it wrong, oops...) nor did they ever lather, so this was an interesting experience. Because it's made with sugar, it isn’t too harsh on the skin and washes off nicely – no stickiness here! I find that it's best used with a bare face or a light application of makeup.
I would definitely consider this cleanser if you're in the market for one as its a nice addition for weekly use and pampering days. Available at Murale and BeautyBoutique.ca.
