Pink Petals

This year is off to an amazing start with empties and tosses - I actually have a bucket full of them! So let's jump right into my January empties!
Full Sized Items:
Herbal Essences Naked Volume Shampoo and Conditioner
I enjoyed using the Herbal Essences Naked collection. It smells amazing and does what it's supposed to do. I didn't notice much of a difference in performance compared to other shampoos and conditioners but I did notice that it strips my semi permanent hair dye a lot faster than regular shampoo and conditioner.
Biore Ultra Nose Strip
Some are afraid of nose pore strips but I love them. I actually wish they were more adhesive to the skin and gunk.
Petit Collection Perfume Hand Cream No. 2
I absolutely love this hand cream. It smells fruity and sweet and gets absorbed into the skin almost instantly - I hate that slimy feeling that lotions often leave the first couple minutes.
Samples:
free your mane Shampoo and Conditioner
THEFACESHOP White Tree Snow Exfoliating Foam Cleanser
Biotherm Blue Therapy Serum
Nivea In Shower Body Milk in Almond Oil
Jurlique Restorative Treatment Serum
Mario Badescu Special Cucumber Lotion and Healing & Smoothing Mask
Balenciaga Paris
Dove Body Wash in Plum & Sakura
Herbal Essences Hello Hydration Shampoo and Conditioner
Pantene Repair & Protect Shampoo and Conditioner
J.R Watkins Hand & Body Lotion in Coconut Milk & Honey
Tosses
Covergirl Trublend Minerals in Translucent Fair
NYC Smooth Skin Loose Face Powder in Naturally Beige
I've had these loose face powders for a couple years and figured it's time to dispose of them since I haven't used them for just as long.
Covergirl Lashblast Fusion Mascara
I liked this mascara but I am tossing it because it has hit the 3 month mark.

What are you looking forward to disposing or emptying this year?

First Aid Beauty has entered the Canadian market and is hoping to provide simple skincare at an affordable cost. At a recent event at Sephora, I was able to meet Lily Gordon, FAB's founder, and received a couple products to try.
Ultra Repair Cream Intense Hydration ($37)
At first, I was in love with the FAB Ultra Repair Cream. My skin, particularly my chin, has been very annoying – with this crazy winter, it can’t decide whether it’s oily or dry. I’ll have good skin days, but then I’ll wake up with extremely dry and sensitive skin patches. During the dry times, sometimes applying moisturizer will hurt and sting. The first couple times I had dry patches, I applied the Ultra Repair Cream, and my skin seemed less dry and flakey. I was just happy that it didn’t hurt, but after a couple uses, it started to sting so I stopped using it on the dry patches. The cream itself is really thick and will take a while for the skin to absorb. I only use this at night because it’s too thick for daytime use with my combination skin. I probably won’t buy this when I run out, but I do recommend it if you have dry but not sensitive skin.

Face Cleanser ($25)
The FAB Face Cleanser feels really nice – like really, really nice. It’s a scentless, gentle and light cleanser that works quite well when used with a Clairsonic. It’s not the best with removing eye makeup so I do that prior to cleansing my face, but it’s great for everyday use.

Facial Radiance Pads ($37)
I was most excited to try FAB’s Facial Radiance Pads. It was my first time trying a pre-soaked facial pads and I was quite confused with how 60 pads could fit in this container – they’re really thin! I’m used to wiping down my face with a thick cotton pad, so this was a bit weird for me – I know, it’s just a cotton pad but trust me, you notice the difference. I have yet to notice any exfoliating or brightening action that the pads claim, but I do enjoy using these when I’m in a rush in the morning or when I’m feeling lazy at night and want to quickly tone my skin. The formula itself worked well with my skin – there wasn’t any stinging sensation that toners sometimes have. I think this would be best used on trips so you can skip that possibly leaking toner bottle.

Do you get crazy winter skin? How do you deal with it?

LUSH’s Cranberry Festive Face Mask ($8.95) is a limited edition mask for the holidays that is made fresh in store. This mask’s primary use is to deep clean, soften and nourish skin.
LUSH Cranberry Festive Face Mask
Ingredients include cranberries, tofu, fennel seed, fresh fennel, argan oil and rose clay just to name some. During the LUSH event, there was a mask station where the ingredients were blended before our eyes, resulting in a creamy yet chunky consistency. The rose clay gives the mask it’s colour while the tofu gives the mask it’s texture. Other ingredients are combined to provide moisture and to detox the skin. Since the ingredients are so fresh, this mask is to be refrigerated when not in use.
LUSH Cranberry Festive Face Mask
Being a pink nude, this mask looks terrifying on. Both my mother and boyfriend thought I was molting and I had to quickly explain that it was just a mask. The mask itself is easy to apply and although it’s quite thick, it was easy to spread onto the skin. One thing I didn’t like was that something in the mask was always falling off my face (I believe it was the cranberry skins) so I tried my hardest to not move my face while I was waiting for it to work its magic. Although it was chunky, it does not provide any exfoliating properties (not that it claim to, but I thought maybe It would). I usually leave it on for 10 minutes before rinsing it off with it still wet on my skin. The tendency to flake made it a pre-shower mask for me.

Would I consider it deep cleansing? Probably not, but it was very moisturizing and it felt like heaven when the cold tofu touched my skin. It’s definitely a great mask for days when you need to rehydrate your skin, especially with the cold and dry winter weather.

Essence is SUPER affordable and the quality of their polishes always amaze me.
Essence's I Love Trends line includes The Nudes, a bunch of gorgeous nude polishes. nude sweet nude is a lovely pink toned gold, more pink than rose gold, but still remains an elegant colour rather than coppery. I love that the colour is so opaque when applied - only one coat needed! It also dries really fast which is a huge bonus. I decided to attempt a gradient glitter accent nail using OPI's Rose of Light.

I've never really made a New Year's resolution before. I mean I have for the sake of school (remember when we had to do those?) but it was never serious. This year I decided to because I'm the type of person that works well under pressure/goals, something that I've learned from the empties challenges more than anything. It's a great picker upper since achieving goals are oh so satisfying. So here's to a new year and goals to strive for!

1. Finish reading 10 books - that's just under a book a month, totally do-able!

2. Reorganize and clean my room - I have been extremely unhappy about the layout and cleanliness of my room, and every time I "clean" it, it just gets messier. I'm hoping to rearrange my tiny room to fit all the unnecessary things I have and maintain it as well.

3. Minimalism! This past year, I've realized I have WAY too many things. What things? LIKE EVERY THING. Clothes, shoes, makeup, purses, books, pens, pencils just everything, GAH! I'm really hoping to take a step forward towards minimalism in terms of my closet and my living space. I've already donated about half my closet and got rid of a bunch of old magazines.

4. Complete Project 333 - another minimalism step. If you haven't heard about it, Project 333 is where you reduce your closet to 33 items (excluding accessories, underwear and workout gear) to 33 items and wear it for 3 months. Knowing that the average person only wears 20% of their closet really puts closet waste into perspective, it's just so darn hard to reduce it with the logically illogical justifications ie. Maybe I'll wear it one day! What if I lose weight? But I spent so much money on this! I can totally pull this look off (No Maria, no you can't!). I might up the number of 33 items though because Toronto weather is pretty crazy and unpredictable, I feel like I should have 4 seasons worth of clothing at all times.

5. Spend less and save more! I have yet to graduate, but when I do in 2 years, student loans are gonna bite me in the butt. Realizing how much money I spend on a year on things I don't actually need is kind of disappointing, so I'm going to try and save money and in turn spend less. I've unsubscribed myself from *most* retail emails and have enough makeup, skincare, and hair products to last, like, 10 years.

So there you have it, my 5 resolutions for 2016. Let's see how I do!

What's your biggest goal or resolution this year?
