Pink Petals

As I mentioned in my previous GenBeauty post, this one will be all about the vendor booths! I managed to complete my list and attend all the booths at the event because I went for the whole time both days and only went to the booths – no Meet and Greets. On Saturday, I went with Nancy, Melanie, Steph and Zaibii. We didn’t line up for Meet and Greets, but we did go to the Ipsy Lounge for a couple minutes when Michelle Phan got there. We also went out to lunch at a restaurant, which could have substituted a quick Meet and Greet. On Sunday, I went solo and basically ran for the remaining booths on my list. Otherwise, it was almost impossible to tackle all the booths while meeting your favourite YouTuber(s) in the allotted time.
The long lineups for the booths were affected by a variety of factors, some due to popularity while others due to activities. I think a lot of the lines took a bit because there were so many things to do in order to get swag (ie. follow the brand on Instagram, post a selfie with x&y hashtags etc.) Some of the activities were optional and used to extra products from some booths, while at others it was mandatory to get the one item. With that being said, you basically need a data plan. GenBeauty offers free wifi, but it’s so slow. Halfway through Saturday, I turned off my wifi and didn’t even bother to connect on Sunday.

Lineups were constantly closing and opening because it was so busy – basically when a line went past the taped lineups mapped on the floor, the line closed down. Meanwhile, some booths closed up their lines for scheduled Meet and Greets at the booth. Lines also closed early towards the end of the day, about an hour before closing time. In terms of stock, GlamGlow had to close lines temporarily and restock, and Dirty Little Secrets closed for the rest of the day on Saturday. However, on Sunday, quite a bit of booths ran out of stock before close at 3pm (Briogeo, Soo Ae, Purlisse and a couple others).

Below, I’m going to list which booths I went to on each day and the product(s) received and the activities at each booth.

There were some definitely disappointing booths at GenBeauty, where the line up was so not worth it, so you really have to pick and choose your battles. Smashbox was highly disappointing because they gave out a primer sample compared to a full sized one last year, but they offered some pretty glam lip makeovers. Also, last year, you claimed your booth swag using tear off stubs, allowing you and your friends to divide and conquer. This year they created a Bingo card where brands would cross their name out, making a bit hard to do so. All in all, I had a really fun time - especially since I got to spend the day hanging out with some friends while there. It's definitely worth going if you're a beauty lover, especially if you like some of these U.S exclusive brands because they offer some pretty good discounts on their products here as well.

Stay tuned for an upcoming giveaway featuring some of the products I received at GenBeauty! :)

This past weekend was the second year where Generation Beauty came to Toronto. If you're unfamiliar with Generation Beauty, it is a beauty convention hosted by Ipsy and its co-founder Michelle Phan. I wasn't able to go last year, but I was lucky enough to go this year with a few of my blogger buddies - Nancy, Melanie, Steph and Zaibii (click their names to check out their blogs!).
GenBeauty was held at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in the same room that IMATS was hosted last year. Tickets ranged from $80 to $170, depending on when you purchased it or used a coupon code. This year, you could also purchase an early access pass for $40 where you could enter the event an hour earlier than those without. The event ran from 10am-5pm on Saturday and 11am-3pm on Sunday. I went for the full time both days and came early to line up before the doors opened, alongside the many eager GenBeauty attendees.

I initially thought that it wasn’t that busy and the event could be done in one day based on everyone waiting for the event to open, but I was so wrong. The lineups were ridiculous for some booths, and a lot were constantly closing and opening. I won’t go into details about the booths in this post, but know that the event was basically lineups upon lineups. Did I mention there were lineups? No, seriously.

Due to the long lineups, it was basically impossible to meet your favourite YouTuber(s) while attending all the booths available due to timing and congestion. With that said, I think it would have been better if there was a stage set up similar to IMATS, where the Meet and Greets would be held. Instead, they were held at different booths at different times which contributed to congestion at said booths.

Now onto the Swag Bag! Here’s what was included in this year’s GenBeauty Toronto Swag Bag:
Full Sized:
Absolute New York Cotton Candy Liner in Lemon Drop ($13.00*)
Covergirl Melting Pout Gel Liquid Lipstick in Raspberry Jelly ($10.00)

Total Swag Bag Value: $246.35
*Prices were converted form USD to CAD at 1.30

Last year, GenBeauty gave two different swag bags – one for each day. This year was a lot more organized where only one swag bag was given to you after you registered and made your way in. This made it really convenient for the event because it gives you an initial bag to put all your goodies in and it benefited those who could only attend one day. The swag bag alone covered the cost of the ticket - there is just so much product, especially when you consider the products received at the booths too. Since I received more than I can ever use, stay tuned for an upcoming giveaway!

Have you ever attended Generation Beauty? Where and how was your experience?

Located in Quebec, Maison Jacynthe is a Canadian brand founded by Jacynthe Rene. Maison Jacynthe's recently launched their makeup line, formulated with only 100% natural and active ingredients. Their products are free of chemicals, petroleum by-products, preservatives and synthetic fragrances. The best part is that Maison Jacynthe is also a proud member of PETA's Beauty without Bunnies program which can be a huge deciding factor for some makeup lovers.
I was given the opportunity to pick a couple of their products to test out and I'm pretty amazed at these products and their quality. Keep in mind, the powders from Maison Jacynthe are pans and do not include the case which is sold separately. I like to keep all my powders in my Make Up Forever Metal Palette. I chose to try their Eyeshadow in 07 Frappe, Blush in 01 Romeo and Powder Compact in 02 Medium Beige because I use these products the most on an everyday basis. I'm currently spending my Summer in Ottawa and brought a pretty minimal amount of products with me and all three made the cut! :)
Eyeshadow in 07 Frappe ($22) - On the website, Frappe looks like a bright peachy pink which made me a bit apprehensive to choose it, but I'm so glad I listened to my gut. Frappe is a lovely shimmery peachy pink that works well on the middle lid, inner eye and even as a highlighter. I personally like to use it on my whole lid for casual days ie. when I'm going to school.
Blush in 01 Romeo ($26) - Currently, there are two options for blush - Romeo, a rosy red and Juliette, a light pale pink. I chose Romeo because I figured Juliette would be too light for my Light/Medium skin tone, but after testing Romeo, I think Juliette would have been equally as good of a choice. I say this because hot damn, this blush is PIGMENTED. It's the most pigmented blush in my collection right now, dethroning my Smashbox blush. With that said, it's SOOO easy to over blush, so one tap of the brush is more than enough.
Powder Compact in 02 Medium Beige ($29) - There are also two shades of the Powder Compact - Light Beige and Medium Beige. I chose Medium Beige and surprisingly it's a bit dark and yellow toned. For reference, I'm between an NC20-25 and the Medium Beige would be better suited for NC30-35. I received this in February when my skin was lighter and can pass it off now that I tanned a bit this Spring/Summer. The powder itself feels light, provides medium coverage without looking cake-y and so far hasn't caused any breakouts.
Since Maison Jacynthe products have 100% natural ingredients, the powders have a faint herbal scent to them. I can only compare this scent to Physician Formula's Organic Wear BB Cream, but it's a lot less strong. I really liked everything that I tried and am really impressed with the pigmentation for all three products, especially the blush. I would definitely recommend Maison Jacynthe products if you're in the market for organic cruelty-free products, or just something new!

If you're interested in trying Maison Jacynthe products, you can order it from their website here (free shipping over $130 or a flat rate of $9.50).

Fellow Canadians! This year will be Canada's 150th birthday on July 1st, and Nail Polish Canada wants you to celebrate with them by using these Canadian Flag Nail Stencils by Whats Up Nails ($5.65). Nail Polish Canada is generously offering FREE stencils to the first TEN readers of this post, so keep reading to find out how to claim yours!
These nail stencils are super easy to use - simply wait for your base coat to COMPLETELY DRY before applying the stencil and filling in the stencil. Wait for the stencil coat to COMPLETELY DRY before removing the stencil and finish with a top coat. Although easy, these stencils require some patience to let your nails COMPLETELY DRY  - which I have little of, evident by my nails below haha.
To create this look, I used Essie's Ole Caliente, Sally Hansen's White Out and a pair of tweezers to place and remove the stencils. I only applied to stencils to my index and ring finger, with my index finger having a clear base and a red maple leaf outline and my ring finger having a white base and a red filled maple leaf.
I haven't used vinyl nail stencils before, so this was a new and interesting experience. Whether you're a nail stencil newbie or pro, you too can decorate your nails this Canada Day by using this LINK and coupon code LGBK92966M3 to receive a FREE stencil (valid only for the FIRST TEN redemptions).

I would love to see your nails for Canada Day - with or without the use of these stencils - so link or tag your Instagram photos for some Canada Day inspo!

What are you doing to celebrate Canada Day?

Let's be friends!
