Glossybox had it's first Toronto party yesterday and I was fortunate enough to attend. The set up was gorgeous and very Glossy. There were stations and displays from different brands to showcase their special products. The brands at the Glossy Party were: Marc Anthony, OPI, Marcelle and Annabelle, Jouviance, GlamGlow, Elin Bianco, Vitabath, Macadamia, getgreatskin.ca, Maskeraide, BeautySoClean and Nyx Cosmetics.
Marc Anthony had a bun, braid and knit bar for free, so I went to the braid bar and got a fishtail braid and then to the knit bar to get the shimmery brown strand weaved into my hair. I asked the stylist how much the knit would be and she said that they charge $30 and that does not include the braid, yikes! The yarn adds a nice touch to your hair and would look really nice for formal events (totally wish I did this for prom). If your hair tangles easily though, I don't recommend it. It took me about 10 minuted to undo my hair because the string was knotted and weaved throughout the braid.
OPI had two nail bars where you could paint your own nails which was really nice. I passed on this because I'm such a messy nail painter and it takes me forever!
Marcelle and Annabelle had a really nice display featuring their BB creams, lip crayons and eye shadows. I've been meaning to get an Annabelle lip crayon and now I have one! They are super nice and go on sheer, but the colour is buildable. While talking to the rep, I learned that Marcelle is introducing a BB cream concealer in late January. I LOVE Marcelle's BB cream, which I'm currently using, and find it the best current drug store cream for combination/oily skin, so I can't wait to get my hands on the concealer. Plus, the concealer has a roller ball applicator which will be easy to use and good on the go!
Jouviance was showcasing their skincare products as well as their BB cream and foundation. Jouviance is really good for basically all skin types that need some sort of healing such as scarring. Their creams are especially recommended by plastic surgeons and dermatologists.
GlamGlow had a station to showcase their infamous product, the Youth-Mud Tinglefoliate Treatment. I LOVE this mask! I received in an earlier Glymm box and fell in love instantly with the product but not the price tag. This mud mask tingles when you put it on, then when it dries it becomes an exfoliator with a bit of water.
Elin Bianco combines the glamorous look of cosmetics with the power of hair products. These elegant looking hair products not only look great, they smell great and do wonders to your hair. Elin Bianco combines 6 different oils, such as argan and tea tree, to give your hair some nourishment and is sulfate and paraben free. It also has a fantastic smell (smells like baby powder to me) that will stay in your hair for 24-48 hours. Here they have a shampoo, treatment mask, hair perfume and I believe a hair serum.
Macadamia Natural Hair had the least impressive display for me. They gave out macadamia nuts and briefly spoke about how their products contain argan and macadamia oils.
MaskerAide displayed their collection of masks. Each of these masks have a different specialty for use and should be put on in the morning for 10-20 minutes, so make sure you have some time to spare!
NYX Cosmetics had a station where you could get a makeover or just a touch up by the makeup artists using the Dark Shadows palette.
And lastly, the Glossy Goody Bag!
What I came home with :)
I will be uploading a post with all the goodies I received on the weekend, so stay tuned!
Essie's Russian Roulette is a gorgeous red. It's not too bright and not too deep, it's perfect for the holiday season. You gotta love that perfect red polish!
What colour are you going to wear for the holidays?
Winter weather is extremely harsh on our faces, especially in Canada. The lips, in my opinion, suffer the most since they easily dry, crack and peel. One way to make sure your lips stay soft this winter is by using lip scrubs!
Lip scrubs are super easy to use, all you have to do is literally scrub it on your lips at least once a week, depending on how cracked your lips are. The only store that I could find which sells lip scrubs is Lush Cosmetics. The scrubs are $9.95 and come in 4 flavours: Sweet Lips (chocolate), Mint Julep (mint chocolate), Popcorn and Bubblegum. They all smell and taste really good! (You lick them off your lips when you finish scrubbing). I recently purchased Mint Julep which actually tastes like a sweet mint, not really chocolatey. I really like how Lush puts who the product was made by and the date it was made as well as the use by date. Something that a lot of people tend to forget about cosmetics is that it won't last forever.
If you don't have a Lush nearby or would rather not spend the money, you can always make your own!
You'll need:
- a small clean resealable jar
- brown and/or white sugar (not powder)
- vaseline OR coconut oil
So to make your own lip scrub, we're going to mix the sugar and vaseline / coconut oil in a 2:1 ratio (2 spoons sugar and 1 spoon vaseline or oil). I'd suggest using a teaspoon to measure so you don't make too much scrub, it'll last a while. For the container, I emptied out a dried out Elf cream eyeliner I had. If you are using a makeup container and are having trouble cleaning it, try wiping the container with vaseline and repeat until it's clean :).
The choice between vaseline and coconut oil depends on your own personal preference, both are edible and will have more or less the same result. I'm not comfortable eating vaseline so I went with coconut oil which can range from $6-15 a jar depending on location (I got mine at a local South Asian mart).
The type of sugar is also up to you, I decided to mix both sugars. If you have a local spice store, take a look and see if they have flavoured sugar! If you can't find any but would like to make it flavoured, I'd suggest looking at flavouring oils such as mint (NOT extracts). And please don't use coloured sugar, it will stain your lips and finger when you scrub!
If you made your own lip scrub, let me know what you think below! :)
This is my first Butter London nail polish. I never knew what was so special about this brand until now. The formula is AMAZING! It's not streaky, the colour is opaque, dries pretty fast and it literally glides on your nail. What I mean is that some nail polishes, like Essie, can be streaky and when you press too hard on the second coat, it penetrates the first and you have a streak of thin polish which is almost impossible to fix without redoing the nail. I'm definitely going to be investing in Butter London polishes in the future.
The Old Bill at first glance looks like the average gold nail polish but when applied to the nail it looks stunning. The colour is inbetween a rose gold and a muted brassy gold. I took a picture below and used the filter that looked most like the colour in real life but lacks the shimmer, so I took one with flash for reference. This polish is opaque so one coat is all you need (but I was so addicted to the effortless glide that I put two coats :P). This colour will match any skin type and can be a pop of colour or more of a nude depending on what you're wearing.
If you've been eyeing this polish for some time, you should definitely get it, I swear you won't regret it :).

I'm really happy with my first ever Ipsy bag. I can see myself using everything except for the anti-aging cream. The nail polish will be great during the holidays where red and gold shine. I'm glad I got the glam lip gloss instead of the vibrant red one from bare minerals because its a lovely pink shade and smells REALLY good! As for the mascara and eyeshadow, you can never go wrong with benefit or thebalm :). Have yet to try the eyeliner and I'm not in a rush with the recent addition from my topbox.
What do you think of Ipsy?

Overall, I'm quite content with this month's box. I really like the nail polish duo, but I personally wish I got Aqua Pretty instead of Floral Passion. I have yet to try out the polish but the perfume smells really nice, it's a musky citrus scent, which surprises me because I'm not a big fan of musk. The Aqua Eyes pencil is really nice black for lining the water line and will last a long time doing so. The butter blend will be going to my mother because luckily I don't have dry skin (except my knees and elbows ><), but I really like the packaging of the product for a sample since you can reseal it, unlike Burt's Bees samples.
Let me know what you thought of this month's box :)
